The driver's side wiper arm is slipping. I have tightened the bolt as much as I can. Does any have a recommendation for fixing - another washer or ???

Driving through a rainstorm today I had to turnoff the wipers due to the slipping. We found a pull over spot where I tightened to bolt as much as possible but it's still slipping though not as bad.

thanks

Unfortunately the only fix is to replace it. The design is very antiquated, when new the inside of the arm is smooth and as you install it splines are cut in the cheap pot metal as you torque it down. The typical torque on that nut is 70 ft lbs, yes 70 ft lbs. I would recommend that you look on the motor and get the numbers off the big sticker and call Wiper Technologies at 833-Wipers1. They are the manufacture of the wipers and very helpful.

Thanks. I called Wiper Technologies but they are backordered due to the pandemic. Tanya told us we could tray Newmar parts but they would be 3-4x on price. Good that Newmar had the wiper arm and post for about $255. Wiper Technologies quoted us ~$70 for both (plus shipping). If we do not need to the post we will return it to Newmar.

We need the parts since we are traveling and I don't want to be traveling w/ out a functional wiper.

I bought 2 new wiper arms from Newmar for $100 including shipping but maybe MA are more expensive

There is a long history of these wipers failing. A lot of folks had them travel off the windshield and get hung up on the other side of the seal and then it would strip the connection between arm and motor. Maybe Newmar went with a different design but it seems like it didn't work either.
I met a guy at a NKK rally that had to get his replaced once or twice a year.

We just replaced both of ours. I sure hope we don't have to replace it every year they cost quite a bit. I'm thinking $300 for both.

You should not have to replace yearly. You have to make sure they are torqued to 75 ft pounds and then re-torque again after 24 hours. If that does not work then most likely the splines on the post are worn down and won’t bite into the new arms, if that’s the case the post will have to be replaced. Welcome to Model A technology, it truly is a pathetic design.

This happened to me a little over a year ago (Nov 2020?) and I ordered a new one from Newmar for $135. I didn’t need the post and as I recall they didn't come as a set then.

And as others have said, torque to 70, but then let it sit for an hour or more and re-torque. I was able to re-torque my old one when this happened and its still hanging in there after many rain storms, so I carry the new one a spare.

On the luxury lines, the wiper are hidden by a cosmetic trim piece that is not part of the generator slide.

Has anyone replaced wiper arms on these? Do you remove the fiberglass section first?

It does seem like it would be tough to get a puller on them to remove them but there is quite a bit of clearance in front of the arms. Maybe they should just be re-torqued once a year - somehing to discuss with Newmar maybe?
