Traveling from Yorktown, Va. to Virginia Beach. There is a south bound tunnel on I-64. I need 14 foot clearance. Anyone know if I can fit? Should I go over to I-664? I think it may be a bridge over there.

Thanks.

First, best to measure your actual height, mine is 13'2 so I use 13'6 for clearances. There are some low overpasses in my area, I think lowest is 13'10 but that's one side, remember it's the lowest they're showing you. As to the tunnel, best to lookup the tunnel and find the exact requirements. Going to VA beach I've been through the hampton roads bay bridge tunnel and it's not an issue. But learn how to find and verify, in the end it's your butt :)

I’d call V-DOT. I took a look on google streets and saw big rigs on 664 but I’d get confirmation and also measure your rig - you reminded me to remeasure mine and this time I’ll post the height on the windshield. I believe Im 13’6” But I’m going to check it to be sure.I also like to see a 14’ min just to make me feel better about it. Seems awful vlose sometimes. Like going under bridges with a 63’ mast. You know it will clear but it sure doesn't look like it.

@Rich W. by spec from Newmar I think you're 12'10 - curious what you actually measure up as.

To all though, not knowing you're actual height and using a value too tall is just going to be cause for needless routing where shorter routes may be available. Know your numbers...I use actual plus 6 inches.

Thanks, I measured the height when I first got the RV. Highest point of the highest AC is 13’7”. I use 14’ as a limit to be safe.

Im just going by memory which isnt very reliable. I’ll measure again and record it clearly to eliminate guess work. Also the 890 has done a nice job of routing me around low clearances so far. I wont solely rely on it but its a nice feature.

Well I have an answer. East bound ( thought it was south) I-64 is 14’7”. You will need to stop at inspection just prior to the tunnel. An employee comes out and looks at your propane tank(s) then sends you on your way.

Note, there is a sign that west bound is only 13’6”

Well I finally got off my butt and onto a ladder and my height is 12’9” (153”) on High and 12’7” on low So my recollection wasn’t far off, and when I measured it last time I didn’t have help. This time I made it a 2 person job and my measurements are precise. I agree with the ”plus 6” rule - I like a safety margin too. I used a 12’ step ladder and a door level (78”) to measure from the top of both ACs. Interestingly both front and rear were the same height - how nice!

Sounds like you're sagging a little. Not uncommon for anything with age..ehemmm
