Campgrounds in 2025

We were just in the Canadian Rockies at Revelstoke, Jasper and Banff national parks for 10 nights, the campgrounds were noticeably less than full. We had no trouble getting spots with short notice. Similar experience in Castlegar, Fernie and Golden BC and again at Drumheller AB and Dinosaur Provincial park. Turned out to be a good time to see the Dino bones & fossils.

Spent the last 2 weeks traveling from DFW to glacier via New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Idaho.

Every place we stayed was less than 30% occupied, except for Williams AZ which was 70% full.

I would bet some of the rv resorts with owned lots will soon see a turnover as well as reducing of prices...

I wonder if this will help make available some sites near the Florida Keys this winter. We still have the Everglades and the Keys on our bucket list but the last few years it has been very difficult to find anything reasonably priced.

We are wondering how long it will take for rates to start dropping with occupancy rates so low now.
We just got a last minute reservation for a weekend near Branson, right on the lake. Maybe half occupied.

Many of the park owners are happy with keeping the prices high, and having lower occupancy.

I look forward to the return of free traveling and no worries about reservations. I think that is already here, but this year I was traveling with 2 additional RV's (Parents & In-laws). While I had no problem risking it, the same is not true for the others. My in-laws are in a travel trailer, no generator. My parents have a Canyon Star, but no experience. To make things less stressful we went with reservations the entire time.

Another thing this trip has taught me, is that I like the < 250 mile days. Yes it takes a long time to get somewhere, but it really does change the pace when you get on the road at 11, and off the road around 3pm -- almost seems like cheating the system. Even going thru SLC Utah was a breeze.

All of the campgrounds we stayed in where easily booked online, and easy to navigate. Along the way I saw hundreds of RV sites with plenty of available spaces, and very few RV's on the road.

The RV's on the road that I am seeing are the Rental RV's, which is a change from the last few years when those where non-existent.

Traveling without the exhaustion is a win. I thing while we're younger we push harder and we need to learn to slow down and enjoy the journey.

Cracker Barrels not being rural?

Walmart usually have a thing where you can stay in parking lot if your shopping there periodically. I have done it. Some of Rvers I have talked with and the truckers that stay don't have a problem

Have you seen the "People of Walmart"?
When in route to a destination, I usually put in 500 miles in a day.
My preference, after a long day of driving, is to pull into a Cracker Barrel lot around 7, order takeout dinner, eat in the RV, then watch a bit of TV & hit the sack.

My son would come home telling me everything that went on at his work in Walmart, there are some doozies going to shop there, lol. I think he should write a book, lol.

We are in the middle of our 6-month travels, and we have not made reservations anywhere. Well, we did reserve a premium space at Deer Springs RV Park for a Buzzards Rally. Other than that we've made reservations the day of or one day before, and I'm pretty sure we haven't stayed in a full park. We've stayed in private parks, city parks, fairgrounds, COE, national forests, national parks, Elks Lodges, Harvest Hosts, Home Depot, Wally World, and a church. Other than the costs, it's back to pre-COVID travel.

We are traveling in Oregon. There are lots of rvs on 5, including a very generous amount of class A s. Last night Southern Oregon Rv Park was completely full with a sign on the door. Tonight we are in Coburg, and at 4PM there are very few empty spots. It is actually nice to see, but of course, that means you better have reservations. Judy D
