The essential element for marketing bull**** is "Never, ever, underestimate the stupidity of the American consumer".
Wait! It was on the Internet... It just has to be true!!!

My favorite Mr. Haney sales pitch to Mr. Douglas was toward the end of a transaction Mr. Douglas had made a final offer to Mr. Haney of $10.00. Mr. Haney countered back that he'd only sell the last two he had as a pair for $11.00 each and that's $25.00. Mr. Douglas said, no that's $22.00. Mr. Haney said, you drive a hard bargain Mr Douglas, sold for $22.00.

Well had my 1st DEF issue. It was hot and stopped at a rest area to eat lunch. Upon starting engine recieved 2 alarms about high DEF temperature. Showed 111F via Silverleaf, connected my DEF emulator and went about my business.
When you are driving in 100F temperatures and the DEF tank is close to exhaust and DPF it is going to get hot.
I will bring my infrared heat gun on next trip and see if inlet valve to DEF head unit is stuck open.
Talking to my friend who owns a trucking company, he recommended adding a valve on 1/2” hose to supply engine coolant and living in the South only open it from December-February.
Now I am wondering if High DEF temperature was from high ambient temperatures or from supply coolant line stuck open?

It’s awful how many vacations were ruined, how much money was lost on non-refundable reservations, and how many people were left stranded on the roadside in danger, all because of a poorly designed, ridiculous device that in retrospect, was so easy to compromise.

I think we can all agree the internal combustion engine hasn't been perfect, but on the whole it's hard to imagine the alternative.

Having been a full-timer and RV’r for over 30 years, considering the high cost now of camping compared to what it used to be per night or per month for staying in a campgrounds, they’re certainly making their fair share of money, but still insist on getting every penny back or retaining every cent when one has an emergency and is forced to cancel their reservations.
We’ve stop returning to or recommending campgrounds in which they had little compassion or understanding and were refusing to return or credit some portion of our funds do to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control. “Some things simply cannot be helped or fixed.”

Just to be fair, I think most campgrounds have a refund policy.

Most that I go to have one as well. It’s a loss of deposit or booked stay.

Basically once money paid, it doesn’t come back.

Most I’m familiar with set parameters. The deposit is like earnest money in a real estate transaction. It means you have skin in the game. Otherwise you have situations like many State Parks encounter. An RV’er books several campsites, when they arrive they pick the one they like and cancel the others. In the interim, those sites are shown as reserved to other campers looking to make a reservation and likely go unoccupied for a time.

There are countless reasons someone may want to cancel, and most parks I know do their best to work fairly with guests. But when you commit to a site and the park takes it off the market for you, that site becomes yours. Expecting the park to absorb the cost of circumstances beyond their control isn’t reasonable.

Philosophically, I agree with the use of DEF to reduce atmospheric pollution. My issue is sensor failures that can leave you stranded on the side of a busy interstate highway. I’d be perfectly happy with DEF if I just filled the tank when empty and didn’t have to worry about sensors making sure input in the right stuff, right temp, etc.

I applaud the policy change and hope it will allow reprogramming our systems to disregard DEF temp, concentration levels, etc, and not derate our engines. In the meantime, I’ll keep my emulator close at hand and hope my (second) DEF head keeps working as I’m now out of the warranty window.
