This just showed up in my google feed. Sad story.

There is a danger to boondocking and not being among others.

Be careful!!!

Sad story
Recently we stayed a a large park in Borrego Springs CA. It was the off season and the park was pretty empty over the weekend, came Monday night we were one of 3 RV’s in this 100 plus site park with the nearest neighbor 30 spaces away. Needles to say this was very uncomfortable for me. I believe that there is safety in numbers and can’t imagine boon docking of the beaten path alone. Stay safe

Oh great...not gonna sleep tonight...and I'm in my own home!

What will it be like, when we do the Calif to Indiana dash in a couple weeks?

Glad I'm getting another firearm...maybe I'll change out my satellite dish to an 80mm!

A 50 caliber should be more than enough.

Been following that story since it first broke. Since they arrested the suspects (man & woman) I haven't heard much about it. Certainly makes you pay attention a little more that's for sure.

This story was the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back and we decided to purchase a firearm and get a CCW permit for protection. We’d been following it since they went missing and it didn’t sound good from the start.

As a long-time firearms owner, competition shooter and certified firearms instructor, let me strongly suggest that you immediately get some instruction in the use a firearm for self defense, and the responsibilities incurred when doing so. Even if you are an experienced hunter or target shooter, you should definitely get training in the self-defense aspect of using of a firearm. And, you also need to know that laws regarding defending yourself with a firearm vary widely from state to state, regardless of whether or not you have a valid CCW.

I don’t think I could agree with you more, TJ.

Jim makes a good point. Even though I have carried a handgun for 46 years concealed I still practice not only firing it but safely drawing it. As much as we move around to different areas I generally carry whenever I leave my campsite.

If 2019 has proven one thing it has been that you are not totally safe boondocking on a beach in Texas or walking through some Walmarts close to the border.

or walking through some Walmarts close to the border.
Don't get too comfortable well north of the border, either! This kind if craziness is happening everywhere.
