Rving with comfort animals

I'll be completely honest, our 3 standard poodles are our best friends, hands down.....we can't leave them in the kennel for any length of time, and its too difficult to find someone to trust to live in our home and take care of them,,,,soooo, we have ordered a 5er and new 450....now I find out that a high percentage of camp sites don't allow more than 2 dogs. So, I thought I'd rent 2 camp sites, seems silly, but I'm spending a poop ton of money on a 5er and 450, what's another 50 bucks a night. Are camp site hosts more flexible on the 2 pet limit if they are comfort animals???

I'm guessing you could still be in violation of a 2 dog rule no matter how many sites you rent. I suppose if you purchased an additional RV and split and dogs up on two different sites you would be okay.

Just curious, do you have emotional issues you are being treated for and are these pets actually prescribed as emotional support animals, or whatever the current terminology is?

I have been assessed by the VA to have MDD at 70%.

So you are saying that the dogs are certified support animals? It just strikes me as odd that any Doctor would think it was a good idea for someone fighting depression to go out and obtain 3 large dogs to care for. Sounds stressful to me.

Ifyou are being treated by the VA, then you must be a veteran, so thanks for your service. Do you have (or could your doctor provide) a letter stating that these three dogs are necessary for your health? If so, I think many of the campgrounds might waive their rule upon presentation of that letter.

Some campgrounds we've been to charge an extra fee (usually $5) for extra pets. Have you tried offering to pay an extra fee (along with providing documentation of your need for the three dogs)?

Just a couple of thoughts.

I am a Veteran with a service related disability. You use the phrase 'assessed by the VA'. With my service related disability the VA refers to it as a 'rating' & provides documentation supporting it. Would it be correct to say that the VA has provided you with a 70% disability due to MDD & the animals have been prescribed by your medical provider? If not, perhaps you can appeal to RV park management directly for an exception to the 2 pet rule.
Assuming the animals have been prescribed by you medical provider, providing said documentation to RV park management at the time of check-in should be sufficient to legally allow an exception to the rule.

First I would go by the don't ask questions you don't want the answer to. Go to a park and if they have a problem they'll tell you, most likely they won't. No need to disclose how many pets you have. You could be strategic in not walking three at once. It's up to you how to handle this but I just wouldn't disclose disqualifying information. I'm not 55 and stay in 55+ parks. Don't ask "hey, I'm not 55, can I stay here". I do lean forward and add extra grumpy to help avoid the situation

My MDD is service connected. Thanks for your service. Acquiring a prescription for at least one of my boys to be designated as a comfort animal shouldn't be much of a challenge. Thanks for u'r insight
