HI, and thanks in advance if you have helpful advice.

I have a 2019 Thor Aria. Both front Captain chairs have the covering (Pleather?) flaking off. This seems to have happened overnight.

The RV has been stored inside (air-conditioned garage) since it's purchase, and no cleaning agents or chemicals have been used on the seats.

I am the second owner of this vehicle (less than 10K miles), and unfortunately the first owner only got the basic one-year warranty.

I called Thor, and they informed me that since the RV was not under warranty, they would not cover the issue. From what I have read, this is a common problem with this Make and year.

Question: Has anyone dealt with this, and had any luck with Thor standing behind their product for what seems like a cronic quality control issue?

Thanks

This is an industry wide problem that has been going on for years.

The chairs are probably made by Flexsteel as we’re mine. They have a bad reputation of flaking. So much so I believe they are no longer in the rv furniture business. The only thing we could do is redo the seats. Lucky me my wife was able to do it.

Mine started doing that around the seams on top. I got some Permatex clear vinyl repair, thinned it with M.E.K. and lightly brushed it on with a detail brush in the problem area. Seems to be working fine. I would have taken before and after pics but I'm terrible with the before part.

Guess what! I got home and noticed my office chair is starting to do the same. The outer coating could not possibly be any thinner. God furniture today cost thousands. Oiy!

If it’s Flexsteel, Bauer Upholstery in Iowa has ex-Flexsteel employees and all of the patterns. There should be a tag stuck up in the springs of both of the captains chairs that identifies the pattern and color. They can either make new covers and ship them to you, or if you’re in their area they do installations.
They use quality materials, typically Ultraleather, that does not peel like that poor quality bonded Halo leather, Ultralux, etc. stuff the manufacturers ordered from Flexsteel.
