My main TV in the coach comes with few preloaded apps like Netflix, YouTube etc. No matter how I tried,I could not load any new apps.
No such a problem with my Samsung at home. What I’m missing?

If it's like my Sony, with the TV connected to your WiFi, in the menu you can see the apps available from Sony.

I’m suspecting the Operating system built in the tv is way too old?

Sony typically uses AndroidTV operating system. Later Samsungs use Tizen. Apples and Oranges.
Unless Sony crippled AndroidTV, it should be able to add apps. Possibly the operating system needs an update to get the latest Google Services that enable access to the Play store. You could also try setting the TV to default settings in case some software is making it wonky. Before doing so, record all of the settings to ensure you can get it back online. Worse comes to worse, buy a Roku or NVidiaShield or AppleTV device and plug that into the HDMI port and eliminate the TV operating system.
