You could save a lot of time if you got off I65 in Montgomery and take Hwy 231 through Dothan Al. Very good road, not much traffic and places to refuel. Plenty of RV parks. Nice one in Dothan and in Troy. Another nice one in Mariana Fl. I make this trip as much as 5 times a year. The blue dot is where I live.back when I was working and kids in school, we only had 2 weeks vacation, suffered I-75 every year to Florida. now retired and kids gone, I take I-65 south from Nashville to I-10 in Mobile and work my way back to I-75, we miss Chattanooga and Atlanta, much more relaxing and only adds a day on the trip.
Chuggs, left in 71, went into USN, got out in Pacific NW, stayed there because had great job, once retired, left and looked for someplace we wanted to live, happenstance BH had cousin in North Central Ga, so we looked around that area. Lived in Blairsville, for six years and then moved east to Clayton Area. Love house, and area. Maybe getting another MH, smaller than the last one. Drove down to Marietta Thursday to look at MH, traffic was a nightmare. Used to go to the Varsity all the time when lived there. Love the Chili Steak Burger. Frosted Orange too!. When I left 1.5 million, now close to 7 million, Opened I-285 in about 68, took it all way around city once it was complete, then only two lanes in each direction, now some places 6 lanes on both directions. Places in North, where it was put in, nothing there, now, almost no empty land period. ATL used to be great place, not now don't think! I can remember going down to Capitol Building and registering for draft, getting my SSI card, and Grandmother telling me not to get card, now you got to pay taxes she said, was working so had to pay them anyway. Miss all the old haunts, Drive Inn out I85, gone, Drive inn corner of Piedmont and E. Paces Ferry, gone.Born in Marietta...Lived in Cobb and DeKalb until I left in '79. Still have Family in Acworth. All this time...I had never seen or heard of the 6+ wheel restriction. Yeah --- we got 8...and the toad has 4...so, we drag 12 around.
Thanks for the heads up. Since Smyrna was my home for most of my childhood...guess we'll revisit the West 285 route. We've used it many times before. Just enjoy seeing the Varsity and the North Avenue Trade School on the thru city route.![]()
I stayed at Montgomery South RV park, as I remember it was great. Several years ago now.No hurry for us, we prefer Interstate travel, plus the drive through Mobile is a beautiful one, the Navigator loves it, not gonna argue with her, lol. we stay at Montgomery south rv park and then Ponce de Leon rv park
