Own a 2015 Forest River Rockwood Hard Side Pop Up, Model A122. The original polycarbonate skylight domes are discolored and cracking with age. To prevent leaks, epoxy repair and re-chalking is constant. These appear to be identical to the newer units, being not screwed down and just placed over the openings with the flanges being stuck on with some type of adhesive and edges chalked for adherence and water proofing.

Plan to order new ones soon, but cannot find reliable information on how to stick on and seal prior to chalking. Would guess some type of waterproof double sided adhesive tape with permanent adhesion to both the skylight and roof surface. Being they expand and contract with temperature, imagine it should be flexible and have a little thickness to fill gaps.

Any recommendations as to a name brand material from someone who has experience with this?

Thanks,
George

Really good : Surebond SB-140
Really gooder : SikaFlex 221
Since those aren't secured with screws it wouldn't hurt to lap over the flanges with Eternabond Tape ( A D-8 Cat. won't pull anything secured with that stuff off an RV roof)..But even without the Eternabond either of those adhesives will work for many years going forward.

I would use Butyl tape, something like this.

Problem is butyl tape is a sealant not a structural adhesive and those skylights don't use fasteners. The adhesive + butyl tape would likely prevent the bond necessary to keep the dome from blowing off. If it was being screwed down the butyl tape for sure.

Most application of butyl tape I'm familiar with has never used screws, e.g. windshields, marine portholes, and windows.

If your windshielld is installed with butyl tape instead of urethane adhesive I'd suggest you check the installers reviews before the next windshield replacement ( which won't be far off). If your vessel's port holes are secured with butyl tape I'd be checking that the gallons per minute capability of the bilge pump exceed the gallons per minute which can come through that hole. If your new single hung windows are installed using only butyl tape, I'd calculate the area around each one where it's most likely to land in July and rope it off with yellow tape.
