Hi Everyone. New to this forum. I bought a new KZ Durango Gold G382MBF fifth wheel last year, 2025 year model. It came with a solar package that has 2x 200watt solar panels, a 30A MPPT solar charge controller and a 2000 watt sine wave inverter. To be honest, I don't really know what any of that means, just sharing what the brochure said explaining the solar system that came with the trailer. My question is about upgrading the 2 batteries that came with it. I have run out of battery before from putting out 2 slides half way at my house and leaving a few lights on for like 3 hours while packing up for a trip. Went to go pull the slides in afterwards and one went in but then the batteries dropped below the minimum charge needed to operate the slide motors when pulling in the second one. I was pretty surprised. Had to wait until morning to let the batteries recharge on solar for a few hours before being able to pull in the second slide. Our bigger slides don't have a manual operation feature apparently.

We currently have 2 batteries. They say on them "interstate marine rv dual purpose hd24-dp 505 mca 64 ah 100 rc". I looked these up and they seem to be really cheap low grade batteries. I'd like to change these for 2 lithium batteries to get the max charge capacity possible, but I have no idea what would be compatible with my other components. Like 12v vs 24v and 100 ah vs 200 ah, etc. does anyone know what kind of lithium batteries I can drop in to max out my capacity without changing anything else on my setup? The main thing we're trying to do is make sure we're ok to run lights and slide motors during an emergency. We've already ran into a few situations where we stop for an overnight stay somewhere while driving across the country and our reserved spot was out of power unexpectedly. We do not plan to add more solar panels or try to upgrade our system to be able to run our air conditioner units.

Thanks and Best Regards

Short answer…. Yes you can swap out your lead acid for Lithium without much work (likely) as your rv, being new, should have settings for the lithium batteries.

That being said, I am curious why your current batteries are not holding up. They should be being charged when you are plugged in. Can you confirm this?

But I would recommend becoming more familiar with your components and RV and then we can start a conversation on moving to Lithium

Hope this helps.
