Seward-Valdez (421 miles)

Valdez was a destination but as it was so far we decided to break it down into shorter legs. We stopped in Anchorage at the Alaska Native Heritage Center which is a Harvest Host and was only 10 miles from our friends living in Eagle River. Second night was a stop in Glennallen which meant we only had 118 miles going into Valdez. Drive over the Thompson pass into Valdez is spectacular with many places to stop and enjoy the views. Bridal Falls has a large pull out area to park and I was able to take a marketing photo for Newmar 😀

Eagles Rest RV Park
Full hookups 50a
No Sat but they have cable
AT&T-good
T-Mobile-poor

This park has some of the nicest people working there. They will assist with booking tours, fishing charters or whatever information you need. Best part you can wash your RV at your site.

We did Stan Steven’s Mears glacier in 2019 but heard about the LuLu Belle and decided we would try this time since it got such good reviews in 2019. This boat (75’) was designed by the Captain Fred especially for Alaska tours and he has operated in Alaska for 40 years. Our weather was terrible with little visibility. Captain Fred is very knowledgeable about Alaska and talks non-stop throughout the 7+ hour tour but I think his time has come to retire.

Fishing Report @Neal

This is the best place for halibut but I have had great weather hand fishing here both times. Long ride out to Montague Island (3 hours) to the best halibut fishing but if the weather is good, great scenery and wildlife. We saw Orca’s both times which was awesome.

This leg is primarily to get back to the Alcan Hwy to head southeast to Haines.

T-Mobile-poor as it has been for 99% of the time
Park WiFi-fair
Cable TV
Sat TV-none. I will say that I have Directv and have seen many Dish satellites up throughout Alaska

Tok-Haines (438 miles)

This is a long leg and the worst roads traveled from the border to Haines Junction, 290 miles. Our average speed was 40 mph and we stopped min Haines Junction, border thru Destruction Bay is typically the worst road and not unexpected.

Haines is one of our favorite stops and worth the 300 mile detour when heading south. We were lucky again this trip to spot a grizzly along the Highway.
Stayed at Oceanside RV Park which was renovated since our 2019 trip, all asphalt with new utilities and clubhouse. We had waterfront site and could watch the ships going into Skagway and the ones visiting Haines. We took the ferry 45 minute ride from Haines-Skagway for lunch one day.

This was the last stop in Alaska and we are heading south to the lower 48 via Jasper National Park, and Banff. We had a wonderful Alaskan experience and hope those that followed enjoyed.

Thanks @NWIP for sharing your adventure with all of us. I enjoyed following along. Wishing you continued safe travels. 😊
