my parents have a 2004 Fleetwood Bounder 38’.

They recently had new batteries installed and while I was in town I had a look at things since the starter battery was drained and the engine would not start.

I checked the manual and it indicates this is a 12V house system.

There is an inverter installed as well, as you can imagine.

Below is a sketch of how I found the house batteries wired. Is this correct?

If so, and we want to apply an external battery charger to charge the batteries, to which posts should we connect?

The batteries are wired in series effectively giving yoy 48v. This will explain everything. connecting batteries

The diagram shows that there are 2 batteries wired in series, and each pair of series batteries are wired in parallel. If the batteries are 6VDC batteries then you end up with 12VDC total.

@Jim I see you replied but now it’s gone.

Am I correct to suggest I should take my negative from battery 4 and positive from battery 1 in this wiring configuration?

I assume some of the wires are going to the inverter while others are powering other 12V components/systems?

The wiring is correct if they are 6 volt batteries. The house batteries have nothing to do with the engine not starting unless there is an Aux or Boost switch.

I should have been more clear.
We have charged the chassis batteries and it started.

My question is about ensuring the house batteries (6V each) are optimally wired for balanced use and charging. I feel some wires need to be moved around as we are off taking positive and negative from the “middle” and not on each end of the system.

They are correct for a series/parallel connection. Both negatives are in the middle and the positives come together opposite each respective negative.

Because you clarified what you wanted to know.

I assume the charging system is connected to the bus bar. So plus charger to+ number 1 battery. Charger - to battery - on battery 4.
