CA strikes again with CARB ACT

You would think the states taking action against diesel would lead the effort and set an example for a way forward.
Yah for sure. But really until EV truck chassid manufacturers start selling their EV truck chassis to integrators like Newmar or maybe Super C manufacturers the chances of seeing electric super C or other EV motorhomes is slim. Teslas only produces about 110 semis a year right now and that won’t change until the new Nevada semi line comes on line in first quarter 2026. And even then every single chassis is pre-sold for at least 5 years.

I can see the smaller 5 ton chassis being adapted first to RV’s. There are a bunch of manufacturers making those. We see them in town here often.
 
I read somewhere today Oregon will delay implementation of ACT until 2026 so 2025 DPs will still be available for sale

Not good news for to turn back California RV ban.

 
We have nuclear powered ships, imagine the day when autos have nuclear power. With the advent of EV which is spreading fast, maybe micro nuclear power devices will be the next best thing and do away with all of the batteries, weight, etc.

I personally have no interest in a EV right now but when shopping for a new car the engine powered options may be more limited. I can't believe how many EV/Hybrid options I'm seeing now.
I went shopping for a hybrid last week. 2025 Durango hybrid was priced at 79k. After tax credits and factory rebates price was 61k. Range on battery power was 30 miles and required overnight charging on 110v to gain 30 miles again. Sitting next to it was an identical Durango non hybrid for 37k after negotiating. 24k difference to feel like your really making a difference is a high price to pay. I also checked the Lexus hybrid and they had a whopping 37 mile range on battery. Can you guess which one I bought?

Those were hybrids. Always crazy priced.
 
Elections do matter. I suspect even without the election there was a lot of pushback for a stupid policy.
 
I wonder how many overpriced lot queens were unloaded by dealers in these states using the F.U.D. about CARB. "Buy one of these older rigs now while you still can as nobody can get you a new one!" I think most everyone suspected some sort of delay or reversal. Was just a matter of when. I wonder how many dealers were able to make the most of this temporary windfall.

Meanwhile, it is interesting to watch chassis manufacturers jumping into the EV thing in countries like Germany for both short and long haul tractors.

Saw this yesterday - no concrete info but it’s leans in the right direction, at least the headline does….

Of much more importance there is a growing chorus of rumors that Lee Zeldin the new EPA administrator is going to revoke the CARB Clean Air Act exemption. Also rumors the enforcement of DEF deletes on diesel trucks has been suspended. Sounds too good to be true. We will see.

A local shop owner is currently being charged with a felony for selling and installing DEF deletion kits. He was offered to pay a $150k fine and accept a felony conviction. He has not accepted and last week was advised to not accept any deals by his counsel and to request a trial.

This echoes many others on the forums that are taking similar actions all on the belief that the laws will be changed or left unenforced.

I know for the local guy this is keeping him up at night and very stressful.

Personally I don’t have any deletes but would love to do them if there wasn’t a federal law that was being broken. I hope the law is repealed or invalidated vs just left unenforced.

Yes, and we know the ECM firmware is off the shelf to support DEF deletes, since military variants do not have DEF. It would be a simple and easy process. I suspect if DEF deletes become legal, DPF's may still be required and I could see diesel vehicles restricted from operating in dense urban areas where NOx emissions are above a certain threshold.
 
Agricultural equipment operators have found various ways around DEF mandates. Even some OEMs have provided emergency patches to keep equipment operating with DEF system turned off via software until the Dealership can get the parts and service the equipment.
1000 acres of crops don’t wait on your equipment to be operational.😳
