"The spectacular breakdown in trade talks between the US and Canada over the weekend has led to new threats from both sides of the border"

Heading up to Canada fairly soon. Does anyone think this will affect tourists and RVers? If so, how?
The $ conversion rate is terrific right now--think it'll change?

I wouldn't worry about any kind of altercation from 99.9 percent of us Canadians. And your money is always good here. It would be in my best interest to have the conversion reflect better on the Canadian dollar but my intuition tells me that I am dreaming. :)

Just an aside, there are folks up here that think you Americans would possibly be averse to us visiting your country. I never let politics interfere with my travels thus I have not missed a winter south (except for COVID) and have never run into any problems. Actually, last year we had quite a few folk come to thank us for being here. I fly our Canadian Flag so I am quite conspicuous.

What parts are you considering visiting?

I'll be entering thru the Soo, Eastward to Sturgeon Falls, Southward to Your side of Niagara Falls, then Westward, exiting thru Sarnia. 5-6 stops throughout 8 days in Canada

Thanks for your friendly reply!

Last year we spent the summer months in NY, VT, NH, and Me. Every campground we stayed in was 50% or less and they all contributed to the fact that the Canadians didn't come.
We spent time in Canada everyone seemed receptive. I really don't think it had anything to do with me carrying.

I think it became quite apparent this summer with all the visitors from around the world who came to the US for the world cup. There were tons of stories about people being apprehensive about coming because of what their governments and media were claiming about America. Once they got here they found that their experience was 100% opposite of what they were led to believe and they had fantastic experiences.

Last summer the US and Canada were also in a pissing contest. We spent time in western Canada sightseeing and then travelling to/from Alaska. In the US, the media told us how Canadians hated us and were dumping US brands of alcohol and not stocking any. Again, our experience was 100% opposite of what our media claimed.

@osuallen and once our visitors found Ranch Dressing, Buc-ees, and free drink refills, they were certainly hooked.

and our grocery stores---I saw so many of them while doing my shopping taking photos and just amazed---in the canned foods aisle of all places!

Headed to Banff in May. I don't expect any problems.

A lot of my neighbors were Canadian snow birds but most have either sold their homes here or run them as short term rentals now. It's sad.

Heading to Banff in May!!! Do you know what you are getting yourself into? ;)

I have found that the large US grocery chains pretty much carry the same as our Canadian stores. What I have discovered is that the local smaller supermarkets carry a myriad of products we don't see. Mexican for instance. There is a store in Yuma that will sell Catfish pieces and deep fry them while you wait! Absolutely delicious! The same store has about three isles of just beans and another of just hot sauces and peppers. The aroma is heavenly. The Amish stores are again, a lot different than what we are used to. I guess the only way I can classify our stores is that they are boring. The US has so many more cultural influences when it comes to food. African, Spanish, Cajun. We do have some similar influences but not nearly to the degree.

By title, this thread is going to press the limits of politics. Tread carefully please. Thank you.

We are heading to Quebec City on September 9 for the UCI bike races. We do this trip every year and always have a great time with very friendly locals! (although we did have two very expensive bikes stolen last year while overnighting at the Quebec marina) I hope the weather is nice again this year.

Seems everyone is being unexpectedly civil and courteous to me and that is refreshing.
