Charging for dogs

I would like to thank TR25 as he gave me a great opportunity to see how I come across many times. In general, I also agree with his dog stance and have been known to say much the same things in forums when dogs and owners come up. It is so obviously the owners that suck, other then the occasional dog that is mean and the owner wants him that way, then they both suck. As to running a campground or hosting, I have noticed that no one ever speaks to misbehaving people or animals. Period. Even when asked to by other campers. There is no point in having a host in many campgrounds. And while we are at it, your kids are just as bad as the idiots and their dogs. Since I qualify, easily, the 55+ places are looking better all the time, now to just get rid of the dogs......another reason to boondock!

We boondock quite often. I find boondockers with dogs are worse than in those in a campground. A lot run free and the owners have no idea where or when they crap. Park owners that don't enforce rules don't help anyone. I agree. Many need to grow a back bone.

Peace Arch RV Park in South Surrey BC. $5.00 for a dog under 15 pounds and $10.00 for over 15 pounds per day per dog. And not a single amenity. They used to be my go to on our way back to Canada. No more.

It's their business, so it's their decision. But you make it seem like 4 bucks is a make or break thing. Why wouldn't someone's pet be worth 4 bucks to them?

People don't want to pay 4 bucks? Take their dog elsewhere too.

Just think how all of this could be avoided if people actually picked up after their pets? And when outside, they are either on a leash or on a tie-out. We'd never had any reason to have this conversation. And businesses wouldn't have the reason for a pet surcharge.

Let's keep this thread focused on campground pet fees and policies, not on attacking pet owners as a group.

It is fair to discuss whether parks should charge pet fees, whether fees are justified, leash rules, waste cleanup, liability, service dogs and irresponsible pet ownership.

It is not okay to describe other members or broad groups of RVers as bums, freeloaders, scumbags, nitwits, or similar. Many members travel with pets, many consider them family, and many are responsible owners. Disagree with the practice or the policy, but keep the comments civil and directed at the issue.

Further posts that attack members or groups of members rather than discussing the policy may be removed.

Sometimes I think you don't get it and then you surprise me.

First, I have no problem paying $4.00 but I'm not paying it for nothing. These parks are making their parks look more affordable. They guy down the street is trying to keep competitive but the guy surcharging for a dog is just cheating the system. You don't seem to get that.

Second, people don't want to pay 4.00? Take their dog elsewhere too. You get it!! Woo hoo!! And that's all I have been saying!

And it NOT ABOUT PICKING UP after their pets. You suggested that they could pay a kid $25.00 to do a poop patrol or wash out the mower. I'm sure most parks could easily absorb that cost. That's not what they are charging. Peace Arch RV Park has 270 sites. Probably better than half of the campers have at least one dog. Even if they are under 15 pounds they are raking in $2,025 PER DAY that their competitors probably aren't aware of.

At the end of the day sir, I don't care if you grasp the concept.

My wife and I encountered something similar when planning our wedding. Certain venues would charge one rate for weddings and a different, lower rate for every other type of rental gathering. Needless to say, those venues didn't get our business.
