I would like to thank TR25 as he gave me a great opportunity to see how I come across many times. In general, I also agree with his dog stance and have been known to say much the same things in forums when dogs and owners come up. It is so obviously the owners that suck, other then the occasional dog that is mean and the owner wants him that way, then they both suck. As to running a campground or hosting, I have noticed that no one ever speaks to misbehaving people or animals. Period. Even when asked to by other campers. There is no point in having a host in many campgrounds. And while we are at it, your kids are just as bad as the idiots and their dogs. Since I qualify, easily, the 55+ places are looking better all the time, now to just get rid of the dogs......another reason to boondock!
We boondock quite often. I find boondockers with dogs are worse than in those in a campground. A lot run free and the owners have no idea where or when they crap. Park owners that don't enforce rules don't help anyone. I agree. Many need to grow a back bone.

That's insane. I have not run into this, but I will be on the lookout now.
Peace Arch RV Park in South Surrey BC. $5.00 for a dog under 15 pounds and $10.00 for over 15 pounds per day per dog. And not a single amenity. They used to be my go to on our way back to Canada. No more.

Let's keep this thread focused on campground pet fees and policies, not on attacking pet owners as a group.

It is fair to discuss whether parks should charge pet fees, whether fees are justified, leash rules, waste cleanup, liability, service dogs and irresponsible pet ownership.

It is not okay to describe other members or broad groups of RVers as bums, freeloaders, scumbags, nitwits, or similar. Many members travel with pets, many consider them family, and many are responsible owners. Disagree with the practice or the policy, but keep the comments civil and directed at the issue.

Further posts that attack members or groups of members rather than discussing the policy may be removed.

It's their business, so it's their decision. But you make it seem like 4 bucks is a make or break thing. Why wouldn't someone's pet be worth 4 bucks to them?

People don't want to pay 4 bucks? Take their dog elsewhere too.

Just think how all of this could be avoided if people actually picked up after their pets? And when outside, they are either on a leash or on a tie-out. We'd never had any reason to have this conversation. And businesses wouldn't have the reason for a pet surcharge.

Sometimes I think you don't get it and then you surprise me.

First, I have no problem paying $4.00 but I'm not paying it for nothing. These parks are making their parks look more affordable. They guy down the street is trying to keep competitive but the guy surcharging for a dog is just cheating the system. You don't seem to get that.

Second, people don't want to pay 4.00? Take their dog elsewhere too. You get it!! Woo hoo!! And that's all I have been saying!

And it NOT ABOUT PICKING UP after their pets. You suggested that they could pay a kid $25.00 to do a poop patrol or wash out the mower. I'm sure most parks could easily absorb that cost. That's not what they are charging. Peace Arch RV Park has 270 sites. Probably better than half of the campers have at least one dog. Even if they are under 15 pounds they are raking in $2,025 PER DAY that their competitors probably aren't aware of.

At the end of the day sir, I don't care if you grasp the concept.

You all take care and drive safe now, ya hear.

My wife and I encountered something similar when planning our wedding. Certain venues would charge one rate for weddings and a different, lower rate for every other type of rental gathering. Needless to say, those venues didn't get our business.

I don't like to be charged for the ignorance, stupidity, selfishness or laziness (or all of the above) of other people. We have two dogs that I walk several times a day, always carry poop bags and ALWAYS pick up after then. And, frequently I pick up around my RV what "other camper's" dogs leave behind. Technically I'm helping the park owner, so I should be paid for picking up after others...right? Much like people with solar panels at their home sell excess electricity back to the electric company.

Bottom line - if an RV park tells me they're charging for our dogs - we'll camp elsewhere.

I think the reason for charging is the fact that there is always that one family that does not clean up after their dog, or the ones that leave the dog in their rv and the office has to field endless calls about the dogs barking.
I remember they once wanted to charge me for my indoor only cat. You think charging for a dog is unacceptable imagine charging for an indoor cat

never get between a mother and her kid/pet. It's a no win situation no matter if the dog has chicken feathers in his mouth or the kid the rock in his hand....it's YOUR fault....somehow.

People in charge these days are more about being considerate of others, afraid to not hurt someone's feelings.
I think we've been conditioned to be this way. Thus why adults aren't turning out too well as parents/guardians/owners....or hosts/bosses.

I've been told I'm tough but fair. What more could a person ask for as to how they would like to be treated?

I'm w/you on the boondocking thing. I don't want to sit there with my dog on a tie out at my campsite then have someone elses dog(s) come running into camp at him. Like I say, "He's not listening to you" does always fall on deaf ears.

Or people stealing firewood, music playing all day that hopefully ends at 10pm. Or their guests park in your spot while you're away...and now you have to find them, etc.

Drama, endless dysfunctional drama....

We packed in running a campground during COVID. Too many of those folks had no idea what camping was all about.
running a campground, to me, would be like being the adult during recess where one has to deal with the kids, pets, and parents of them. No way jose.

Covid, the lockdowns, seems to have made some people a bit nuts too. Think of the kids, living in their phone, then lockdowns hit and they were exiled at home by threat of law/violence...and people feared of dying. It really screwed a lot of them up. Adults though weren't immune.

due to the ever present threat of censorship/banning, that's all I'll say on that. Yet another effect of 2016 onwards that we live.

Let me add this one to the list:
  • WiFi upgrade fees
  • Firewood fees
  • Visitor fees
  • Early check-in fees
  • Late check-out fees
  • Reservation change fees
  • Site selection fees
  • Extra vehicle fees
  • Cancellation processing fees
  • Package receiving fees
  • Resort fees
  • Booking fees
  • Additional person fees
  • Extra awning or outdoor equipment fees
  • Generator usage fees
  • Premium view site fees
  • Golf cart fees
  • Shower fees
  • Laundry fees
  • Propane delivery fees
  • Sewer hookup fees
  • Electric metering fees for short-term guests
  • Trash collection fees
  • Gate access fees
  • Parking fees
  • Seasonal storage fees
  • Pet walking area fees
  • Picnic table or gazebo rental fees
  • Bring your dog fees
Guess I'm doing it wrong!
That's a lot of fees, but some don't make sense and some are redundant. Just a quick scan of them:

Wifi upgrade fee? upgrade to what? silly unless they throttle people. If they have to purchase a wifi system to cover the whole campground, then that's a cost to them, so it should be passed on to the users of it. No problem there.
I'm far enough away I don't use any wifi anyway. If need be, I'll get starlink or the like....or just use my fone and/or tether a device to that.

firewood fee? Never seen this. I have seen where firewood is avaible for purchase though and no problem with that as no one works for free. Also, because of bug infestations, a lot of importing wood is illegal in many places.

Visitor fees. Could be valid as some people rent a site then have 'visitors' come and utilize the facilities/utilities. Usually there's a cap on visitors both in number and time as it's not a flop house they're running there.

Early check in fee? You can check in, but then you'll have to wait until the spot is ready for you, so why the fee?
Late check out? Yes, makes sense as sometimes people drag leaving, so the person waiting on that site also has to sit around and wait on them. Not responsible of them.

reservation change fee. again, justified as they set aside a spot for you and if others want it, they can't get it as you reserved it. There are people who reserve multiple sites at the same time, then cancel the ones they aren't going to use. To some of them it's worth a token amount to guarantee they have a spot. Unfair to others tho.
Cancellation fee goes into this too.

resort/booking fees seems to be like when a third party books the site instead of the site themselves. I'm not in favor of third party anything.

generator usage fees? Whose generator? If a camper needs/wants electricity, they should get a spot that has it.
If someone is pulling their rv into a tent, non elect site, then run their generator all the time....well, how would you feel about that if it was 20ft away from your tent? Do you want to camp at a place that sounds like there are leaf blowers going all the time too?
There should be electric sites and non elect sites. No reason for a gen unless the grid goes down.

There should be a seasonal storage fee. If not, then let me know where you live as I'd like to store my RV at your place for free.

some make sense, others don't and doubt many campgrounds have all of those.

lol, you should have told them that you'd not charge them for your cat keeping the mouse population down on your site.

Isn't that sort of like being forced to have auto insurance?
I've never gotten into an accident, yet I have to have auto insurance.
Good that you are a responsible owner.

If it were me as owner, I'd charge for dogs as I'm sure my liability insurance would cover someone elses dog...as it's relate to me and my business bank account and insurance company for some reason. For owners that don't pick up after their dogs, I'd offer a bounty to the kids that if they see that, go and pick it up, then leave it on the hood of their vehicle. I'd give them 10 bucks each time they did that.

course, then they'd sue me for something else......
