Did I read this right or is the cost of a DEF filter 2K!!!!!!!! Tell me this is not so! I thought I would change it just to be cautious but I don't think I will at this price! Your thoughts are welcomed.

No the filter for the DEF tank.

$40

Thank you so much. I was passed around from Newmar to Spartan to Cummins Mostly because I know NOTHING about where to go to get things. So glad that it is not 2k which I think is some sort of DPF filter. Thanks again!!!

If you crawl under the coach, get the oil filter number, the fuel filter number and the fuel/water separator filter number and then search on amazon for them. The generator also has fuel/oil/air cleaner filters, so find those as well. Create a wish list, and keep them stored in there, that is what I do, then when I use one, I order another one. I let cummings/freightliner do the service but I provide the filters to save money on that part, they will gladly use my filters and not charge me for them. I was not aware of the DEF system needing a filter, thank you for that info, how often should it be changed? I got 15,000 miles on a two year old unit, and most of that was the delivery to Oregon from the factory and our trip back to GA after delivery. One trip to AZ and back, and everything else is within 500 miles of home.

Thanks so much for that tip. Sounds like the perfect plan. I got the heads up from R Mold on this site by seaching DEF. Here is what he said in his post:

DEF filter - I’ve always read and been told that this has a 200,000 mile service interval. But that was misleading. That’s for trucks that do that kind of mileage in a year or two. Detroit says 3 years max. Mine is approaching 6 years old and I can imagine that in 3 years the paper can degrade, and as much as DEF likes to crystallize, I can easily see it getting loaded with dried urea, especially in a low mileage vehicle. So this is going to be an ANNUAL service item for me from now on and Im carrying one with me. It’s a simple job wit easy access. My part number is 5303604 and they are readily available. A cheap chinese knockoff goes for $11. A Bosch item $40, Cummins $100. Take your pick.

Hope this helps you. I think I will change annually also.

Hmmm, checked part no's. I now have two different ones. I am going to check the chassis manual and see what it says. Based on our use, I am going to put this on the 2/3 year replacement plan. I will check youtube to see if anyone has posted a video of doing it. Was not even aware of the filter. so glad I watch this site. Thank you again.

It might be the simplest filter you have ever changed. Piece of cake.
