DEF Systems Can Now Be Disabled if they Fail

Had a catastrophic failure where the entire DPF fell off. Temporarily fixed it with a straight pipe and software update.

Oddly these fell out as I was collecting the DPF.

I could never understand how anyone could come up with such an emission system that, in the name of lowering the concentration of a relatively harmless and natural atmospheric gas (NO2), destroys engine efficiency such that millions of gallons of extra fuel have to be needlessly burned each year. I hope the new EPA gets rid of these NO2 standards. They have no impact on global NO2 levels and are only useful in a handful of situations that can be dealt with locally.

the one and only positive effect of the DEF system is the removal of the smell. This is more obvious when idling for a period of time.

While the GHG rules were repealed in 2026, NO₂/NOx vehicle emission standards were not affected or removed.

Regardless the DEF debate, I don't have a dog in that hunt, but this is for sure, NO2 isn't a relatively harmless and natural atmospheric gas.
