she had a glass shatter
Actually, the whole window flew off. ☹️ Some plexiglass from Home Depot and gorilla tape and I made it to Showalter's for an install. 😊

If you don't expect to be in significant rainy weather, my temporary solution would be to knock the broken glass out fully, cut a panel from building supply store clear plastic, and fasten it overlapping the outside frame, secured to four interior-side wood 1x2 corner spanner diagonal "cleats" using a screw (and washer under the screw head) run into the cleats from the outside, the cleats having been placed inside each of the four corners to give you something to run the screws into as clamping for the panel.

You would get full visibility from that and could drive unlimited distance. To keep rain out, buy a roll of aluminum foil tape used on attic duct work and do a tape overlap around the outside edge (We use Nashua 324A Premium foil, UL181A-P, 2.5" wide, from Home Depot or Lowes.) You can cut the tape narrower with scissors, the adhesive is much better than packing tape and the foil tape can be peeled off without residue when it is time to install the OEM panel.

Think outside the box. Get into the mindset of doing a viable workaraound to problems while on the road that "un-limits" the range of choices you have on what you might do next, and when! If you can make a mitigation that lets you drive unlimited distance and be fine for a while, you won't be "owned" by slow OEM or dealer parts sourcing that you can't control...

Praying that you get patched up and have safe and happy travels!

Thanks for the tape tip - will check it out. For many years, the 3M "Mystic Vinyl Tape" in black or white was available and withstood uv/sunlight exposure when placed on RV exterior very well, with a little bit of imprinting left behind but pulled clean otherwise, with no sticky residue. Sadly, Mystic tape is no longer available. Still have a few unused rolls from a bulk buy of a decade ago, still works from those rolls as if bought yesterday. Not all product line changes are progress 😏

Status update?

Duncan ordered the glass, it shipped yesterday. I'm still sitting at FL but I'm leaving today for a CG near where the service shop is that's going to do the install as I need full hookups and a better setup to walk Elli. I'm tucked in the back of FL farthest from the service bays which is also furthest from the grass and I have an intestinal bug that I don't want to be far from the coach when possible.

I'm hoping I can make the one hour drive keeping the window intact. It's a straight shot down I-85 to Perkins, SC. I haven't done plexiglass or tape. I tried to start clearing the outer layer, it's on pretty good, but I saw the inner pane is shattered too.

Glass is supposed to arrive next Wednesday. Of course the tech says he's booked through September, no one mentioned that! As I'm going close to his location he's going to try to work me in. Apparently it doesn't take that long. I assume the entire window unit will be getting replaced.

but I saw the inner pane is shattered too.
Wow…. Interesting…. Would that rule out the rock theory?
Keep us posted.

Like I mentioned, when leaving Carowinds I heard a lot of movement in the window area, something didn't sound right but I guess it's designed to flex. I don't know how many of these windows hold up to the stress of these machines.

I'm thankful you're able to get it taken care of. When I had mine replaced, it took two guys less than an hour to remove and replace the window assembly.

I truly believe there is/was a problem with that window. I have heard of too many people having the same issue. It is always the large fixed pane that breaks.

I hope you get over the bug quickly.

Thankful for this group and @sheridany mentioning "insurance" offline as I would have expected to just pay out of pocket somewhere. I'm guessing this large unit is 10k+ for parts only.

I think the window assembly is around $ 1,500- $ 2,000, with $300- $ 500 in labor.

Amazing what they get for these windows. I have had car windshields replaced for less than $400 - labor included….

It's like that for anything leisure related, add Marine or RV to the product name/description and the price automatically nearly doubles.

Off topic but from what I understand or heard, Gaffney service will be moving to a new facility thats being built. Any word on that?

Nothing heard while here.
