Hi all. Psyched to be a part of this forum. Love getting out in my Lance 855s.

I’m looking for some help with trouble shooting a power issue in my camper.

I recently wore through the power cord between the truck plug and the camper and shorted the constant power and the running lightS. The truck fuse for the running lights was blown and with some electrical tape and a new fuse they are up and running. On the power side I did not have any blown fuses and fixed the wire with some tape. Everything seemed to work, but I don’t think my truck charging my batteries. I am currently running the camper in 110 to see if that will charge the batteries. I’ve check the truck plug with a volt meter and get 14 volts when applied to constant power and the ground so I think the issue is beyond that somewhere in the camper.

I’ve searched all over the internet to try to find someone with the same problem but can’t seem to find the same problem. If anyone has a link to something that might help or can steer me in the right direction if you know what might be going on I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome @Rewker - great to have you with us.

If you disconnect your shore power and disconnect the terminals coming from the truck to the batteries you should read over 13.6 or so from the truck with it running. Over that is a bulk charge rate or it is to high. Your battery should slowly drop back to 12.6 or so after disconnecting from the charge. Do a search on battery charging and maintaining and what voltages you should expect. There is a wealth of info out there to educate you.

You don’t state the type, year, or model camper. That may help if one of the members here has the same or similar rig.

Check your converter fuses.

Thanks for the responses. The camper is a 2017 Lance 855s. This morning after having the shore power plugged in all night my batteries have a volt reading of 9.3. When the shore power is plugged in the volt reading on the batteries is 13.5. That means the converter is working right? And when I have the truck running and the shore power disconnected the volt reading is again 9.3. That means the truck isn’t charging the batteries right? Should the batteries still be at less than full charge after being plugged into shore power all night? It’s very cold here in Colorado right now so maybe. And where should I look to try to figure out why the power from the truck isn’t working? Thanks

sounds like shore power is working, but alternator voltage is not getting to the batteries, it should be in a simil;ar range as the charger puts out, probably higher like low 14's. Overnight charge via shore power should have the batteries above 9.3. They may no longer be taking a charge. You can take the batteries to an automotive store and they can test them under load to determine if they are still viable.

What Scottkd2 said and if they have been at 9.3 for long, they are ruined.
