We are full time and have Thousand Trails. A family we were talking to said they always fill there fresh tank when parking at a spot with full hookups then use the water from that tank instead of city water directly. One reason, they said, was their “in camper” water pump was more consistent and using the tank water kept it circulated and thus always fresh.

Is this a good idea or am I missing something.
 
Can't disagree with that...do you want your water sitting in the fresh tank for months? Someday I may put in a solenoid so I can turn on/off the city water from within the coach so I can better control the fresh tank cycling.
 
I put a "stock tank float" (as in water level float for livestock) in my fresh tank. It is hooked up to the city water and it's always full or filling to full. First the water passes thru my filters, one of which is a 0.5 micron filter which knocks the water pressure from "stream" down to "dribble". I pump all my water thru the shurflo 2088 water pump. I built my RV. I did things a bit differently. BUT, I could make a easy "fix" for a factory built unit by simply using a small (6 gallon) Valterra ABS tank and popping few holes to make an access hole, a hole for a small tank float and the needed water and vent fittings, then plumb it inline and at the height of the top of the factory water tank.

Basically it works like a residential toilet tank. You drain the water out of the tank reservoir (flush) and the water fills back in until the tank float reaches the "full" level that it is set for.
 
It is a good idea. It exercises the pump, and rotates the water in the tank. I don't drink any water that passes into my camper from anywhere. I am building a filter for sediment, but am not going to screen it down to atomic levels. It does more consistently keep water pressure up. I don't care if my pump fails, unless I decide to boondock.....I have spares...lol

Sounds like your level of knowledge is WAY beyond mine. Thanks for the info.
 
I always filter the CG water into the fresh tank and use the pumps. The reason I do this is I've heard too many times of people leaving their coach connected to city water and coming back to a flood. Also, if I hear the pump running when I'm not expecting it, it lets me know I have a leak.
