How far to trash recepticle is acceptable?

I don't mind walking to a dumpster, even at an astonishing rate of $50.

IMHO $50/night (incl tax) is a pretty middle of the road rate these days. Even at $50 + tax, I wouldn't consider it particularly expensive. We like to stay at full-hookup parks and last year (our last major trip) the going price was ~$35-50/night plus tax. At most parks I fully expect to take my own trash to a dumpster. A lot of parks do let you leave your last day's trash at your site, especially if their dumpsters aren't in a location you would pass on the way out. I don't think it's a show-stopper either way JMO.

Having curb side pickup is something that will really be appreciated.
Buena Vista Coastal RV resort in Orange beach has In-ground trash receptacles for every 2-3 sites. You still have to pick up the bags but you don’t see them.
I also believe this system can be bear resistant.

I don't mind walking/riding to a conveniently located dumpster. As others have noted, the important thing is to clearly state the rules and show the location on a map. One of the nicest resorts where we've stayed, Hearthside Grove, does not pick up and has one centrally located set of dumpsters. An advantage is the grounds always look better because you don't have garbage sitting out at the curb for half the day because people put it our too early or too late. Jim, with the minimum number of lots you're going to have, no need for pickup...just one dumpster. IMHO.

@murphysranch, this is a far from completed information pamphlet that I've been working on. It doesn't have pictures of the completed park because we're still working on it. But even though the pamphlet is in its infancy, I think you will get an idea of what we're offering for $50.00.

We understand that it's not for everyone, but we're not targeting "everyone". We have a select group of RV'ers that we want and we're ready and willing to give that group everything that we can.

I agree with most comments - I stayed at a KOA that had a small metal garbage can at the entrance side of the pull thru, that was ok but a dumpster on site that I had to drive to is not a bad thing either. I would make it easy on the host, be it you or a hire. We generate a small grocery bag of trash a day and if I need to put these small bags into one big bag to take to a dumpster, I'm ok with that.

A dumpster is fine, even several hundred feet away, as long as it is CLEARLY marked on the arrival park brochure. And I mean clearly. I don’t mind the hike if I know where I’m headed. Besides the dog always enjoys the walk to the dumpster.
As far as pricing goes, it seems like the closer you get to either coast the price for a full hookup park easily surpasses $50/night. We have no problem paying a decent price for a well kept park with full hookups.

As others have stated, it doesn't matter too much, but I do want to know when I check-in. The dumpers on the way out is fine since we typically plan a local trip at least every other day. Even walking to a nearby can / dumpster is fine as I can always use the exercise. Pickup at the site definitely preferred.

whether the trash is picked up at the curb or I have to take it to a dumpster makes zero difference to me. However, if I do need to take it to a dumpster, I tend to get a quite annoyed when I walk over to drop my trash and find an overflowing dumpster. I hate that.

To me, far more important is timing your dumpster pickups appropriately for the number of sites and bookings you have.

we also like to recycle so a recycling dumpster is great if possible - though some tend to treat them like a second dumpster which is not cool. We’ve seen a few parks purposely put the recycling dumpster in a different place from the trash dumpster in order to force people to consciously walk to thee recycling dumpster to recycle. Seems to help with ensuring the recycle dumpsters only contain recyclables.

It not only looks “trashy”, the critters love the contents. They are not so considerate to putting the remnants in the dumpster. My choice would be no pickup at the site and provide a convenient dumpster.

We are familiar with that area. Your price point appears to be very competitive.
Typically we are more concerned about the sites being level, easily accessible and well maintained. Handling of trash is typically not one of the things we worry about, unless the trash interferes with our enjoyment of the camping experience. Generally speaking, on site trash pick can be an eyesore, or, even nasty. Centrally located trash repositories can be overloaded, especially during high usage. Would rather drop off my trash at a location that is away from the site. Just my preference.

IMO, there is a bigger picture that needs to be looked at.

$50 a night for a full service RV park is a bargin.

Labor: Many parks have a husband/wife management team or are run by an owner/operator. Thats a 24/7 job. One of them must be available at all times. Those that do not have that type of setup still have to have hire someone to manage the park.

Grounds maintenence, repairs and maintenence of the park have to be factored in.

Utilities. For your $50 a night you expect electricity, water, sewage and trash removal.

Taxes. Many RV parks are on prime real estate and the property taxes are not cheap. 7.65 FICA taxes and state unemployeement taxes paid by the employer for each employee.

Insurance. Liability insurance and property damage insurance.

Debt service. Few parks are probable free and clear and carry some amount of debt.

Thank you, @lemondrop9344. We will only have 8 sites so I feel the volume of trash should be fairly small compared to a larger park. I hope that when we are up and running that you drop by for a short (or long ) stay.

We will probably do some curbside pickup, at least while we're getting it off the ground. Mostly because I want to visit with the guests and gather feedback. But in my efforts to make your stay as fun as possible, I'll skip your site and let you enjoy the walk. The least I can do, right?
