...we had a sumptuous feast of locally-made tamales. Muy bueno!

There's a small storefront near us called The New Mexico Tamale Company. It is mostly take-out (totally take-out right now). They make superb tamales using traditional Hatch Valley chiles; the best...right, @Neal?

We buy their tamales by the dozen (actually, by the four-dozen) and vacuum-pack them for freezing, four to the package. Just 30 minutes in the steamer takes them from rock-hard frozen to steamy hot and ready-to-eat.

Tonight we had the "Green Hatch Chicken" and "Green Hatch Pork" versions with sliced avocados and salsa on top. Yummy! Sadly, I was out of my favorite Negro Modelo Mexican beer, but made do with a cold Deschutes Brewing Company "Black Butte Porter" from Bend, Oregon. Not much of a sacrifice, really!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Omg Tamales are an extreme addiction of mine and I come across good homemade tamales so rarely. I literally get a crazy look in my eyes when I find good ones.

Growing up in Texas, one of the things I learned early was that there are only a few good places to buy really good tamales and everything else was mostly not very good at all. There are usually a handful of establishments across a major city that do them right but if you are down near the border, there’s the added bonus that you just might be lucky enough for a little old Hispanic lady carrying an igloo cooler full of homemade tamales to knock on your door. These are the tamales you buy without question, you pay what they cost and you buy them all, and you spend the next two days eating the most amazing thing and when it’s over, all you want to know is where that lady went and when she’ll be back.

i love tamales more than I hate carpet. I might even eat a small piece of carpet for a couple of good tamales.

It’s so hard to find good ones.

I've eaten tamales in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico and California (plus several other states) and the ones from this local shop are the best...hands down! And, like you, I LOVE tamales!

@TJ&LadyDi poor planning, you should never be without Negra Modello. Having said that, I had to settle for Corona here in Utah because I was unwilling to visit several stores to locate.

You are absolutely right, Bill! I submit to whatever punishment is appropriate. Mea culpa.

I do hope you wiped those Corona bottles down with disinfectant.
