On my motorhome I’m charging a lithium house battery with a 60 amp DC to DC charger connected to a lead acid starting battery, and the battery combiner relay is disabled. It’s been working great so far. Now the lead acid starting battery is failing, and I want to replace it with a 100Ah lithium battery, so the entire coach will be lithium powered. I can reconnect the combiner relay because both batteries will be the same chemistry. But how am I going to limit the charge current to the lithium starting battery. Please completely ignore the fact that a 100Ah lithium battery is not designed to start a vehicle. I have removed that issue. So I have a 30 amp DC to DC charger for the 100Ah battery, but I can’t run two converters directly off the alternator without a battery in the circuit, right? How can I make this happen? I hope I’m painting a clear enough picture. One more time. I have a 460Ah lithium house battery charged by a 60 Amp DC to DC charger. I have a 100 Ah Lithium battery that I was planning on charging with a 30 Amp DC to DC charger. But what is my power source for these two lithium chargers? Can’t be the alternator, right? In a moment of desperation I tried connecting the alternator to the 460Ah lithium battery just to see what the charge current would be, and the 170 amp alternator was charging it at 135 amps. Not good. Too many amps. Any ideas about how this can be done would be great. Ed in Galt, CA
