Good Morning..

Yes, the time has come for me to fill the tank on my Diesel Heater and test it.

This will be my first fill.

I installed a stainless tank on the outside of my trailer (photo below). Living in Southern California I don't have to worry about the extreme cold or the diesel jelling or waxing.. but what if we traveled through a colder climate, having the exposed tank, would kerosene be a better option?

This also leads to another question.. Does the Heater fuel pump (internal piston) need lubrication from the diesel fuel that the kerosene may lack?

Thanks..

Vernon

1. Is it a dual fuel heater? 2. That tank looks like about 3/4 gallon (8"x8"x3") is that correct, or is the photo misleading? If so, that isn't going to run long. 3. If the fuel pump is part of the heater, and the heater is dual fuel - you are probably OK. If the heater is not dual fuel, you are still ok because the heater won't work on kerosene anyway.

The description on the tank says:
  • Length: 325mm (12.8'')
  • Width: 265mm (10.4'')
  • Height: 100mm (3.9'')
  • Capacity: 7 Litres
This is a larger tank than what came with the heater. As far a duel fuel? I'm not sure.. but I remember when I lived in New England people were running diesel and kerosene mixtures.. and some were just running straight kerosene.. I am far from a fuel expert, hence this post.. but I will look to see in the literature says anything about duel fuel.

Are the specs on kerosene and diesel that different? From what I recall, they're basically made the same way.

If you're traveling to a cold climate, could you leave it empty and fill it with cold weather diesel when you get there?

Or fill it with jet fuel, which is basically the same as diesel or kero with lower cloud and freeze points.
