I have a Pepwave Max transit. One feature of the device is it monitors the network status and will send me an e-mail notification of network status change i.e. wi-fi as wan 2.4 goes down (disconnects) I get a notification.

I'm looking for a device that will provide the network monitor and notification function like the pepwave is providing however that's really all I need the device to do. So a Max Transit for example would be way overkill.

Would love your insight on what equipment you have experience / knowledge of that I might consider to utilize for network status notification.

Thanks in advance,

The gl.inet devices have this feature. The goodcloud service allows for remote management monitoring and notifications.

I have ditched pepwave for the gl.inet in all my remote homes and RVs. The only part lacking is a dual modem, but that’s not an issue for me. It does support dual sim, which is great for the Rv.

How about a computer such as a raspberry pi that monitors the connection (say via ping) and then have a python or shell script send you the notification? If course it assumes you have a secondary network connection. Am I missing something?

@flyboy13 We do not have a secondary connection at the moment but could go that route if needed. Seems there may be three approaches, Some remote equipment that pings the monitored network and reports if no reply, perhaps a cloud solution and perhaps an on site device (pepwave like) with a secondary connection to provide a communiction path for the report.

For a quick solution, you could have a computer in the RV publish a MQTT message to a free public server. Then have a script (or a home assistant server) check for a current message and send a notification if it’s not current.

You could even use a $2 ESP8266/ESP32 development board.
