Need to open tailgate while hooked

It's very easy to take the jack loose, rotate it one direction and bolt it down with the two bolts that will line up. You don't need all three bolts. This has worked for me on many trailers
 
just wondering some of the tail gates for the 5 th wheels they have a deep in them check them out i think you might be able to drop it like you want to.
 
The closer you have the ball to the truck, the better stability you will have.
This is very true. With an extended hitch the trailer will have more leverage with which to push the back of the truck around. In the interest of maximizing towing safety I would not be using such a hitch.
 
I seen someone at a akc hunt test that turned his jack sideways and was able to open his tailgate but his hitch I believe was a little longer then mine it had two holes to put his pin through. haven't tried with mine yet.
 
Go online to etrailer. They have extensions of different lengths made just for this purpose.
 
Like Roy2 said- maybe an RV tailgate would work. If not, what about one of those rubber tail gate nets?
