Hello,

Newbie from Georgia. Never had a Class C/Class A RV. Looking into getting one. Wanting to know some basics and different brands/years to avoid before purchasing one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome. You can do a search of this forum and get loads of info.

Welcome from Dallas GA. Good luck with your search. Not sure I know of a brand to avoid, they will all have issues.
Our Concord has the Lippert (Schwintek) slide rooms. I would look to see what else is available. We have had issues with slides. Do some research on this as you shop.
Over all other than our slides, our Concord has been great. Fifth wheel to the Class C for us in 2021.

Thanks. We are looking into getting a used Class C or a small Class A. Don’t want to invest too much money into one, as we don’t actually know if we would like it. Probably about 10k-20k for a decent used one.

In quite a different time, I had a website for RVers. I talked about frame flex, body flex, and related issues. Many of the things that I covered are the things that modern RVs are riddled with today.

I call current problems the "Keeping up with the Jones syndrome ". When every manufacturer, against there better judgment felt obligated to install slides, quality issues became commonplace! You see it isn't a quality issue, as much as a lack of common sense!

When RVs were purchased to enjoy the outdoors, RVs didn't have to be vacation condos!

So my rant is not a rant at all!

My suggestion is no slides. Making a box ridged enough to make slides reliable puts stress points on the frame. All one need do is search frame cracks to read all about it. Here is the dirty secret! Reinforcement of the frame at one problem area simply moves the weak point to another location. We laugh when we watch a dog chasing it's tail! Well?

The manufacturers are responsible for frame cracks, slide failures, cracks in the sides, and the works, Inside and out! Why? Because they don't say no to bad ideas when they know what the outcome will be!
