The large Nova awning won't retract on my 2022 Ventana. It won't retract using the remote control or the control panel inside the coach. It extended without any issue and the LED lights work. The smaller Nova awning towards the rear works fine with the remote control and from the interior control panel.

Any suggestions as to what could be going on and how do I retract it manually if I can't retract it using the awning controllers?

Thanks in advance.

I had this problem once. We unplugged and actually turned power off to coach. Powered back up and it worked. Not a problem since.

Newmar had me unplug the controller in the basement and wait a minute or so. Unfortunately that didn't work. I've got a mobile RV tech here to manually retract the awning.

All is good now... after trying every Imperial and Metric allen wrench both the tech and I were scratching our heads. Nothing would fit and the tech said there must be a special tool. I then remembered that when I took delivery a year ago April there was a tool in a small manilla envelope that came with the coach. Well, I dug it out of a drawer and sure enough that is what was needed. It attached to the drill bit of his power drill and my awning retracted manually.

I previously talked to both Newmar and Girard and neither one of them had any awareness of this special tool needed to manually retract the awning. So keep this in mind that you might need that special tool if you ever have to manually retract your Girard Nova awnings.

The size is unique to the nut on top of the awning/motor... We believe it could also be used attached to a pole to manually retract the awning from the ground without having to go up on the roof as the nut extends to the underside.`

This tool came in an unmarked manilla envelope when I took delivery of my coach. I'm glad I kept it and knew where it was!!!

Thanks for the info. We received one of those with our new superstar as well. Couldn’t remember what it was for 😀

I picked up my Ventana yesterday after having a couple of things taken care of. One being the issue with my Girard Nova awning not retracting using any of the controls. The technician discovered that there was a bad connection of the wire that controls the retraction of the awning for the motor. These wires are inside a WAGO box mounted on the roof in proximity to the awning/motor. In that these wires are inside a WAGO box the connection point had to be done improperly I'm assuming by Girard. In any event problem was diagnosed and repaired.
