Complete newb to RV life coming from the US Northeast with a wild hare idea: get an RV to visit interior Canada and US national parks and spend a few warm(er) months in Vancouver as a base for exploration to Seattle to Alaska and to the Rockies.
Buy or rent? If buy, sell or rent out after the long trip? This might be my only RV adventure but if it goes well it could be the start of something new.

Rent.

Rental is the only way. There are many ways to rent and all will be cheaper than owning for a short period.

IMHO, especially if there is a chance you may keep it, buy used and sell when done.
OBVIOUSLY, you will use due diligence and have the unit professionally inspected before delivery!
Plan, plan, and plan again---then go have the time of your life!

Normally I'd say rent for one or two trips but since you're talking about months I'd say buy used and sell when done. The depreciation is probably less than the rental fees. I rented a couple times when we were between RVs and it is NOT cheap.

If you do buy, sell it when done or keep it for future trips if that appeals, but renting it out would probably be more trouble than it’s worth. I would rent a travel trailer for a trip up to around a month if I were sure I wouldn’t want to do it again, but for several months the rental cost would be pretty high - likely more than the net cost to buy and sell. Renting a motorhome would really be pricey for that amount of time, and then of course you’d want a toad or end up renting a car for side trips. Don’t meant to discourage, but these are facts to consider.

A lot of campgrounds have permanent RVs or cabins they rent out. That would probably be cheaper than renting an RV or motorhome. And if you're going to be in one place for months then an AirBnB makes sense.

You didn't read the OPs post.
"...get an RV to visit interior Canada and US national parks and spend a few warm(er) months in Vancouver as a base for exploration to Seattle to Alaska and to the Rockies."

I did read it and was offering what is likely a cheaper alternative to renting or buying for a one time multi-month trip.
You don't go from "...interior Canada and US national parks and spend a few warm(er) months in Vancouver as a base for exploration to Seattle to Alaska and to the Rockies." without an RV unless they want to stay in hotels, etc. The OP said RV, though!
They will NOT "be in one place for months"

( And, FWIW, I'm still pi$$ed you ruined the thread about Canada border crossings!!! 😵‍💫 )
