not to add to your stress, but when my exhaust manifold warped, the sound was a squeal like a belt or a bushing. Very much doubt that's it. It’s a known defect in the 6.7 and I haven’t heard of it happening on an 8.9, but it was an interesting experience.

I’ll be very interested to hear about the improvements with the new shocks

I doubt I'll notice. My goal is avoiding destroying the tag axle tires. The ride was already great. I'll certainly post if I notice any change, better or worse.

I’m at 70k miles on mine so I figure its about time. I put Koni FSD shocks on my Bay Star and while there was a minor handling improvement, it made the ride too harsh, so I’m a little reluctant to put them on my Ventana without getting some first hand observations.

I put Koni's on the front right after getting Active Air. Been fine, but no difference noted from the originals. Had the bad wear pattern on tag axle tires and now that I have new tires I'm doing all I can to avoid that on the new ones.

I had them put on the front of my ventana and I thought they made difference. Of course no shock is going to make any ride better on stretches of CA highways.

Well one shock would but I don’t see that happening in the foreseeable future.

Back to the OP:

They tell me belt tensioner and/or belt so they'll replace both for around $2K oh joy. I'll chase down the two parts and take it to them in the morning, one from Cummins one from NAPA. Is what it is, at least no breakdown or tow then repair.

have them evaluate the water pump while they are in there. It’s only about a $150 part but the labor would be the same as what you are paying now. Its probably easily a 100k mile pump but if you don’t foresee being this far into it again between now and then, you might want to do it now.

Do you work for Visa?

I would probably need to chase a part again, may just defer this to the annual FL Gaffney visit.
