Yahoo...it fits! The tape measure said it would, but you know how tape measures are.

Getting ready to hit the road early next week, so rolled the grill out to the coach today for a trial fit and LadyDi helped me lift it in. It fit with literally 1/16” to spare! The back of the pellet hopper and the front of the Dirt Devil vacuum are that close. A piece of rubberized mesh shelf liner doubled over creates a zero-space snug fit. Everything else clears with ease. It is a bit of a weighty little beast at 80# but has enough grill space to do a full brisket plus, 7-8 steaks or a dozen burgers at one time.

So, the RT-340 makes the trip with us. Even have room behind the grill for a sack or two of pellets but that’s not a big deal as I can pick them up along the way, if needed.

The on-the-road pellet grilling and smoking adventure begins. I have used the RT-340 at the sticks n’ bricks and like the unit a lot. It is well designed and built, plus it maintains temperature within a couple of degrees of set point. Still working on getting the wifi connection set up, but Reqtec has a help line if I need it.

Go smoke-up some of that clean Montana air Tj. Sorry we won’t be there to share your beautiful spot this year.

I thought I had added “pictures.” Too busy today; must have gotten distracted. Feast your eyes.

Any restrictions about using pellet grills at RV parks?

I went with a camp chef pursuit portable pellet grill, although I was on the verge of buying the Rec tec.

To be clear, I went with the Camp Chef because they gave me a $300 credit towards another grill after my second 24" grill had the paint start bubbling and peeling.. The first one (Woodwind Wifi 24") had the paint bubble, peel and barrel rusted within months of purchase. They gave me the choice of donating my grill to a fire department and getting a new one, or getting $200 off. I took the new grill. Within two months, the new one was bubbling, this time it was donate/new grill or $300. I chose the $300 credit and got the portable camp chef for $280, and I'll just have to strip down and repaint my 24" grill (and better than even chance the portable).

Buyer beware on the camp chef, they clearly have some issues with the paint curing or powder coating or whatever they are doing.

We haven’t found any restrictions on the use of a pellet grill, but the universe of RV parks we have used ours at is very small. Our first Recteq pellet grill has remained at our Polson lot, which is currently for sale, and will go with the property. Just a few days ago, our new Recteq RT-340 arrived here at the sticks n’ bricks and I just got it set up today (1-hour burn-in, wifi control activated, etc.), so we’re again ready to grill and smoke.

BTW, I recommend very highly the Recteq; mostly stainless steel construction and the modest amount of painted surfaces appear to be powder coated. The units are well-built, quite easy to use and very temperature-stable. The results are outstanding—aka “very tasty.”

I had decided that unless Camp Chef gave me a big credit, I was going to get a grill that's all, or nearly all, stainless for my portable. With the $300 credit and getting it for $280 after the credit, couldn't pass on it.

That said, my next pellet grill whether for my house or RV will be one of the ones like Rectec which is nearly all stainless.

Good to see that the RT-340 fits. I bought one last year and hoped it would fit but never tried to bring it. Definitely a two person lift to get it in/out.

True! The good news is that it has sturdy, comfortable lifting handles on each end.

Lifting handles on both ends is a REAL nice touch.

Any restrictions about using pellet grills at RV parks?
During stage 2 fire restrictions, pellet grills are technically prohibited. I read the document from the forest service and decided to take a trip to the ranger station.

When I arrived, they had a traeger grill sitting outside. My confidence was boosted, so I went in and spoke to the ranger on duty. I asked him if Hank Hill was going to finally win the debate, as stage 2 allowed only hank to grill, while the rest of us where stuck.

Short answer... charcoal and campfires will get you a ticket guaranteed. Pellet grills are technically wood stoves. They can also be shut off very quickly and are fully enclosed. It's a gray area and depends on the officer/ranger and the conditions, etc.

LPG stoves are allowed.

I went back and smoked my supper.
