Poking around on the Roadmaster website I stumbled across this: Roadmaster Inc. - Tow Bars, Braking Systems & RV Accessories

Watched the video and it seemed pretty neat. I’ve read previously that if you’re headed up to Alaska, it’s recommended to bring a spare tire as you might not be able to get one for quite some time up there. I’d always wondered, where the heck would I put a tire?

Now I know...

Very interesting! Seems like the leverage handle would overcome the one issue I wondered about; how to handle a fairly heavy wheel/tire. Would filling the tire with helium...never mind. :ROFLMAO:

Sadly I would need 2 spares, otherwise the one size i don't carry is guaranteed to be the one I need

I've been using that carrier for a few years. I haven't had to use the spare though, but the carrier is a slick design and is rated at 10k.

In our case, looks like every time you need to open the engine door, the tire has to be lowered?
Or I’m missing something?

It’s just bolts holding the spare to the hitch. Any reason you couldn’t get longer bolts and mount two spares back to back? Maybe the tongue weight capacity but it says 400#. The tires are heavy but I’m not sure they are that heavy

You are correct but from the video it looks to be a very simple 4 second activity to lower the tire.

Is the wheel for tag the same as the drive wheel, just turned opposite? If not then 3 spares required if you are not going to have a tire swapped on the road.

I had always assumed so. It’s not like I would ever try to change one of these tires myself. For me it was all about having the tire so I knew I wouldn’t be stranded. I have no issues with paying for someone else’s sweat. Most of the time spent in the side of the road waiting for service is probably your service provider trying to track down a tire. If you have the tire, they just need to drive out and change it. That 5 hour roadside stop suddenly drops to
Maybe 1.5 - 2 hours. For me, that was the beauty of this device.

Edit: in my case, all my tires are the same. I just recalled checking this at CPU.
