My husband and I have both retired and want the RV lifestyle. We want to buy a Class A between 32 and 35 feet. We are looking at a used 2020 Fleetwood Fortis. It's got a floorplan we like and the price seems reasonable. There may be a couple of knockout factors that I'd like your advice on.
The king bed folds up and can't be used unless the slide is out. There may be stealth camping in our future and I'm wondering if the slide be used partially out to accommodate the 6 inch flip down of the mattress? Or has anyone put an adjustable bed frame (without the feet) under the mattress, which might decrease the lenght of the mattress when the footlift is in the up position,, which may allow the slide to come in. There is a drop down bed and sofa, so this may not be a big deal. Thoughts on this?
The dealer has provided Fleetwood's sticker and is says the freshwater tank is only 50 gals and the hot water heater is 6 gals, however, Fleetwood's brochure, and all other specs I could find, say 100 gals and 10 gals? Anyone have any ideas why there would be a discrepancy? 50 gallons of fresh water won't last long if we boondock.
Finally, Newmar Bay Star has the same basic floorplan, but the Fortis has more features like the W/D, 2 screens that are larger, standard drop down bed and a great pantry. Is Fleetwood a quality RV? Is the Fortis and entry level coach that won't hold up after a few years?
I appreciate your advice!
