Top tier is about additives. Newer engines require additives to perform at peak performance for maximum lifetime.

There is no noticeable difference from top tier vs good quality gasoline while driving. It’s the life of the vehicle that makes a difference.

For engines that sit for long periods of time not running, I'm all about filling with the no ethanol dead dinosaur juice - its usually not Top Tier, mostly unbranded. Top Tier fuel - yes, I heartily recommend it 99 percent of the time - Chevron, Shell or Exxon, usually. But I don't like cleaning carburetors and fuel injection systems from the damage that the ethanol causes in attracting moisture out of the air.

I will readily pay the nearly one dollar extra per gallon that the no ethanol fuel costs because overall, I don't use that much. And my generators, weed eaters, chain saws, lawn mowers and old cars all thank me.

Fully agree regarding ethanol. I'll always use Sta-bil in the low use engines too.

Would you like to explain how top tier gas emproves engine life. Please give the science, not the hype!

Really?! Is not using "top tier" gas going to cause the engine to self destruct at say 50k miles? I seriously doubt it.
Just what is "maximum lifetime?" You obviously bought into the hype.

Hype--No---just facts from MFG.

Self destruct? .. who said that?

50k? ... who said that.

I think you are getting fast and loose with facts and quotes.

BMW, GM, Toyota, & Honda created the spec. Mercedes, VW, Subaru, Ford and others joined after the fact.

These are the engineers that create the engines and know what is required for the specs they are designing. They know that fuel needs additives for their parts and designed them accordingly. These specs far exceed the Federal specs that where in place prior to 2004.

I drive performance engines and have some very high mileage vehicles. My 2011 Suburban 2500 has 350k on the engine and runs very strong. We use top tier gasoline 75-80% of the time.

There are so many Top-Tier certified suppliers that you may struggle to find a supplier that doesn't have it.

FAQ:

I've had a drivers license since 1959. I just don't understand all the issues people have with fuel. My lawn equipment sits for months with no start up issues. My MH has sit one time for 18 months with no start up issues. I have never used an additive and use E87 for every thing. I purchase what ever is the least expensive fuel that is available at the time. Just did Sam's club for $2.34.

You must be manifesting! We have been taught that large amounts of alcohol kills rubber parts, and waterloggs in short order.

Glad to hear you have no issues. Guess I need to manifest my rig to run on water 😁

FAQ:
You are hilarious! I have a 1997 Dodge Ram with the 5.9 liter gas engine that now has 304,000+ miles on it and I have always used the cheapest, low octane gas at whatever fuel station I happened across. How do you explain that?
I also do not use any fuel or oil additives.
Just goes to show people are willing to pay extra $$ based on what they are told and not on real life.
