In bike riding, the 'peloton' leaders, that's the long line of riders drafting behind the leaders will deliberately not increase the speed before beginning a short climb so as to rob the bigger guys of the momentum advantage. Sometimes the leaders will even slow the pace just before the start of a short climb.
