The last trip we were on I was getting my flat tow vehicle hooked up. I went through my routine and installed the connecting pin that connects the tow bar to the vehicle. I’ve always heard to install them from the inboard out. Then install the safety pin. I did that, did my lights and break checks and we were good to go.
I drove about 200 miles before I stopped for a break at a rest area. When ready to head out I did a walk around and lo and behold I found a connecting pin missing the safety pin. I couldn’t believe the connecting pin never came out. It was fully inserted. Luckily I had a pin that would work. I’m not going to use the pins with the rounds rings that clip into place.
Oh btw, I found the fallen pin. It was laying on the running board in some mud. My tire must of kicked it up. The spring clip is what I’m using now in the pic on the left.
