I’m planning to switch from a class c to a fifth wheel (37-42”) long. I will also be purchasing a 3/4 ton diesel. I would prefer to buy a 6.75’ bed but would like some comments from those of you with experience. Do’s, Don’ts, ride difference, etc.
Thanks
We've pulled fifth wheels all over the country for over 20 years and don't have a slider, and we do have the Ford F250 short bed (6.75 feet). Just pay attention to what you're doing at all times and you should be fine. Don't turn too sharp, especially when backing - have a spotter watch for you with immediate communications.
Most of today's fifth wheels have a rounded front cap which greatly improves the ability to get by with a short bed if you pay attention and use common sense.
That's my two cents worth from a couple of decades of towing.
I started towing our 42' Fifth Wheel with a Ford 6.75 bed. I elected to have the Sidewinder King Pin installed with the B&W companion hitch. Absolutely zero issues. When we upgraded to an F450 we went back to a regular king pin and could use the B&W with the puck system
