Good Morning.
We have traveled South many times in January, but I’m has always Been with a 5er. This will be our first winter in Class A.
We live near Cleveland, Ohio. Will be traveling I-71 to I-75 through Kentucky and Tennessee finally to Saint Augustine. So my questions if I de-winterize at home and put some water in my fresh water will it freeze? I have heated tanks, are those pads capable of keeping tanks warm enough at highway speeds? Should i be traveling with furnace on? Maybe set at 50 to 55 degrees?
Once I get into Tennessee I believe i will be alright. I usually stop first night around Georgetown Kentucky.

Thanks Dan

I was under the impression that the plumbing was in the basement!

Do you travel with the inside of your vehicle below 32°?

We always travel in comfort. That means we use the furnace in the cooler periods and roof A/C when it's warm. Your dash air and heat are not sufficient enough to heat/cool the whole coach If your furnace is running (setting the thermostat at 70 for comfort) it should keep your wet bay(s) warm enough. Your hot water tank is likely kept warm using the engine's heat but if you don't have a heat transfer system built in, just keep your gas water heater switch on. We live in Canada and use our coach year round. The only thing that we watch out for is the fresh water tank vent hose. Ours has been plugged with ice a few times as it sticks out below the heated wet bay so it can make filling it difficult until one thaws it. If you fill enough water to get you to Florida, you should not have any problems.

we also travel to florida every january, northern illinois here, I never winterize, I just keep the heat on about 55-60 for 1 month, then head to warmer climates, no issues yet.

Dan, We travel in weather down to 10F getting to the south and our dash heater keeps us and the coach warm. No furnace needed during travel. In those cold tempters, I throw a towel in front of the radiator.
The dash heat actually gets to the wet bays and keeps them at 45F+. Fleetwood used Denso for their HVAC. It is one of the better HVAC assemblies.
I guess it all depends on the manufacture, how well the wet bays stay warm.

Thanks everyone for responding.
Still confused on what to do though. All this information will help.

Dan, everyone is trying to tell you that you'll be just fine so long as you are using your RV. Put your tank heaters on for extra peace of mind (they'll actually only come on under 40F typically). The inside of your rig, and likely your basement, will stay warm enough no matter if its 10 degrees. IF you park your rig for a few days, and turn off the heat, THEN you've got problems below 32. But nobody does that while travelling. Enjoy your travels, enjoy your rig, and know that you'll have no problems at all. :)
