I have a f250 ps 1996. It has 8 ft box. It also has a 1ft wide fuel tank against the cab leaving me 7ft. Do I need to take tank out? (not wanting to) the camper is a 11ft

Yes! But you need to remove the 250 with a 350 as part of the conversion.

You may want to put it on a scale to verify that statement, but if it isn't made of balsa that will be your conclusion as well.
