Hey guys,
I changed my oil the other day in my RV getting ready for 2023. What found was my oil filter was only finger tight. Literally no effort to spin it off with 2 fingers. I am really surprised it was not gushing oil. The previous oil change was done at a dealer. Now this is actually the third time this has happed on three different vehicles when I had the oil changed instead of doing it myself. Also 3 different locations. I don’t know what to think about this, all I can say is be careful who does the work on your vehicles.

I usually have to check the levels after a shop does it. Most of the time they seem to overfill.

same with mine, brought my new DS home from dealer to find a large puddle of Hyd oil under the motor, after shroud removal and inspection, the filter was only finger tight, out with a strap wrench and tightened it up

That's surprising as most shops tend to over tighten them and not oil the gasket properly so they're impossible to get off. I don't think they're supposed to be tightened much beyond hand tight.

What does “Hand Tightened” mean? It is not really a form of measurement as each persons hand strength is different. I believe in most cases it use to say on the side of the filter, “install filter until seal meets the surface, then tighten 3/4 turn”. I have seen in some installs where vibration is higher is to tighten to 1 1/4 turns after seal seats.
