First camping trip in the badlands, before cell phones and internet were readily available, took kids to Mt Rushmore, National guard stopped us, no info, just leave, park closed, went to a restaurant in Keystone, found out from TV report

In Chicago for a business meeting. A group about 40 in the meeting when we heard commotion about something happening so we took a break and fathered in the car. to see the TV and we’re all shocked. By lunchtime the host company said they had reserved rooms for everyone. I had a rental car and called them to see if I could take the car back to Connecticut since it was clear to me that there would be any flights anytime soon. They said I had to return the car to where I rented it from at Ohare. So I finished my meetings and drove the car home to Ct. through the night on empty highways at around 90mph to get home to my wife and kids. It was a bizarre feeling. At any rest stop or fueling station everyone was silent and the clear skies being plane free was eerie. Returned the car in Hartford a day or two later without incident.

Navy annex. Just up the hill from the Pentagon. That day sucked to say the least.
