So you thought things stopped when you got to a 1/4 tank they say...nope! Maybe that's just the GEN but I went to pick up the coach today from storage as I leave Saturday for a trip starting with Gaffney. Knowing I was leaving I didn't winterize and just used the burner. While I was on the fence of going on the trip or delaying it, good thing I went, although I was due for my 30 day exercise of the coach. Low fuel warning on engine start - yaye! About 1/8th of a tank. And of course the fun starts there. No worries, there is a diesel station right outside of my storage lot except the card reader is broken! Wonderful...let the adventure begin. T/A was 20 miles away...I made it. But moral is, OASIS burner seems it will go until the tank is dry.

I’ve found that you can still go quite a ways with that low fuel light on. I made it from Tampa to Ashland VA on a tank of fuel. I was determined to make it to the T/A and i did.

I’ve have also run the generator with less than 1/4 of a tank. Not sure what the lower limit is for my coach.

if I remember correctly, reserve is 20 gallons on my 100 gallon tank

Good to know,

I'm going to be validating my gas gauge again tomorrow. On the way to this campground I didn't realize my Garmin 890 went silent on me after continually trying to hijack my phone call while using AirPods. So I blew by the last Love's. So I sit at this campground just under the 1/4, probably less, and have 48 miles to the Love's enroute to next stop. I know there's enough fuel to make it, the dinging low fuel alert will drive me bonkers the entire time. And of course I have to use OASIS burner at this CG at night as it's 20. I tried going electric element only and it wouldn't heat sufficiently and needed to make sure the wet bay was staying warm, so burner on and cringed all night. I passed a QT on the way in but didn't see separate truck lanes nor do I want to maneuver the car lanes. Joy....

Looking back through my records, the most fuel I ever added was 82 gallons….and I don’t think the generator or oasis had been cut off yet….

Interesting thought, is the Oasis fuel line tee’d off the generator fuel line? Generator has the same concerns of running the fuel tank low/empty.

I once was forced to drive 110 miles beyond the warning light, with the gauge showing 0 and DTE showing 0 miles for the last 30 miles.

When I finally arrived I filled 132.6 gallons on a 150 gallon tank.

I don’t think I could have used many more of the final gallons, and won’t try to again.

I've never put more than 85 gallons in my tank and driven over 100 miles with the low fuel light on. I don't think our gauges are that accurate.

Side note: I remember the first time the low fuel light came on on my previous DP. I was on I-20 in Mississippi and 30 miles to the nearest diesel fuel stop. I panicked but made it and I still remember putting 75 gallons in the tank.

I have a plan! Wearing AirPods with music playing for the segment from here to the fuel stop. I am not listening to that dinging sound for an hour which wears out my sphincter muscles!

Soooo, made it. Never want to do this again. I figured it would be fun to count the dings (low fuel alerts) and that ended at 20 as it dings more in turns and going downhill, and trying to navigate out of Charlotte, the counting stopped. Thankfully I wasn't chewing gum! What we don't know is how much fuel is actually usable in these tanks. My tank holds 100 gals, I don't know how much of that I can rely on. But it's good to learn and know if you're in a pickle...but no thanks. 86 gals put on today.

I agree...you always wonder how much is usable. We all know it isn't 100.... But maybe 95? Probably not. Maybe 90 is the limit? I guess it also depends on who put in the fuel tube in and where it is placed...

I don't want to know how low I can get because that would mean having all the problems re priming it and getting it running again. I am not shure a 5 gal can would do it.
Neal how much did you save with your TSD card?

Off-topic, but I always try to have a full or close-to-full tank whenever my motorhome is in storage for several weeks. Due to algae growth on some of my ranch equipment, I learned the hard way about water forming in diesel tanks. Of course, you can always keep an algaecide additive in the fuel to help with the problem.

I agree….we always fill up after a trip and before parking it….and I have used algaecide on occasion as a preventative.

Sorry Bill, just now getting that info as I learned today the Card Control app is no longer used and the open roads app has the transaction history. I saved $44 on the fuel stop.
