Every once and awhile I have the need to write up a document of some type or make some written notes. A lifetime ago my desktop or even my laptop had some type of word processing program. Now, except maybe for the first year, it seems there are fees for maintaining such a program.

Anyone know of any free simple word processing programs. Not wanting to publish a novel, just make and print a list or letter on occasion.

Google Docs

Thanks!

If you use Mac they have their own free apps too.

For ~$10/mo I get access to the entire Microsoft Office suite for 5 users along with 1 TB of cloud storage each. Each year I get enough use out of Word, Excel and even PowerPoint to make it worthwhile (to me at least).

Don't forget Notepad is still provided in Windows.

I downloaded LibreOffice and it looks promising! Thanks.

Think you will like it, been using it from it's open office days. It was Sun micro systems wordprocessor

LibreOffice gets good reviews & should work just fine for you. Best of all it's free.
Unless you are doing some really 'heavy stuff' with functions & VBA code in Office, you should not have any issues.

I use Google docs but there's also the free versions of MS Office online. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. If you sign up for free email at outlook.com, the other apps are available. I can't say that I've ever really used them and I'm sure they're light on features compared to the paid versions but they're probably good enough for lots of things if you prefer the Microsoft look and feel.
