At a campground in St Regis, MT. I am hooked up to shore power. I went to put in an address in the GPS for our travels tomorrow, but Xlite/Rand McNally won’t turn on. Any ideas?

It should be on the 12V circuit. You may want to try turning the salesman switch off for 30 seconds unless you know where the fuse is for the dash radio / nav.

Neal - what is the salesman switch? Is it shutting down all battery power?

The switch at your entry door with the red light that is ON when it's on. It is your master on/off for the 12V system. Hold down for a few seconds to turn off. Wait 30 seconds or so, then press UP to turn on.

There is a 10a fuse which can be accessed thru removable panel on the top of the dash. I have to do this every so often, I haven’t tried the salesman switch method. I am on my second head unit as the first one only lasted 9 months.

Resolved: turning the power on and off didn’t work. I called Newmar - they got the xite reps on the phone. Solution was to pull the xite out of the dash & check the 10 amp fuse. The fuse was fine. We reinserted the fuse and it came right on! Actually pretty easy to fix!

Don’t know why we have to do this at all.

In my opinion, dash radios are not designed to be on at all times. Cars don't do this so the radios have a chance to reboot which clears memory, etc. This is why I added a rocker switch for my dash radio which allows me to turn it off when either there is a problem or I don't need it such as wanting to not draw on battery power when boondocking. I ordered the switch from the link below, very easy mod.

It is no wonder why Rand McNalley got out of the RV mapping business. Buggy hardware like this creates all sorts of negative experience with customers. Having to remove a unit to reset power is beyond ridiculous.
granted I use the Xite unit on most every trip and have learn to work around most of the bugs. This is a “mature” piece of hardware that is still filled with bugs that crash the system. Almost all the time it crashes enroute which essentially makes it useless until you stop to sort it out.

And, that’s why many of us have a standalone navigation system aboard (Garmin RV 890 for us). We rarely use the Xcite (which is not very “exciting” for us), even for the dash radio function. Replacing it with a Kenwood is on my to-do list, but hasn’t yet moved to the top of the list.

I use the IPhone as well, Xite has a useful feature of RV 13’ clearance mapping. The Garmin 890 or similar is in the future at some point. I’ve got several Garmin GPS just not a RV specific model.

Seems to me, when you kill house power (rocker switch by entry door) that kills power to Xite Radio. Try it, leave switch off, suspect nothing in the house will start or at least most stuff. I store my MH away from home, so I turn off all the switches, house and chassis when it's not being used. I do weekly charge batteries with genset.
Assuming things change, but my experience with Garman is not good. Magellan makes very good aftermarket RV GPS's, and I have gone across country with using one of them 5 time's. I can count on one hand the times it made mistake. I ALWAYS check a large print RV road atlas against any route the GPS says to take, ensuring there are no low overpasses. You Dutch Star Owners would not get under the 13.7" R?R trestle on Hwy 76 heading to Dalton, GA. I am at 13.2", and I slow down to crawl speed when I go under it. I cringe every time. There is one famous low overpass they show on TV all the time, countless people have stripped off the top three feet of their rig trying to go under it. Someplace around Atlanta, GA. Warning signs starting 1 mile back, and "people just don't pay attention". That is said because you I-phone/Cell Map users are going to get bit by them. They do NOT show truck routs, they generally take you the shortest distance route, regardless of road conditions/obstacles along route. A RV Large Print Atlas, will solve 99% of those issues.
