Towing power of a class c

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum but figured I could get some knowledgeable information about the best Class c for towing. We have had a pop up, travel trailer and now a class c. We currently have a 1997 32' Fleetwood Tioga, that does good towing on flat ground. We tow a 2000 4 runner, with a blue ox tow bar and most of the time don't know it's there. Problem is when we get into eastern Wyoming, where we go most of the time, those long rolling hills have us dropping into 2nd gear and maybe going 35-40 mph up the hill. We were thinking to upgrade to another Class C with a slide but are wondering if that will help with the hills any? Spouse is not comfortable driving a Class A so that's not an option. Thought about a diesel but those are hard to find without spending a lot of money. We were thinking in the 2005-2008 years for another rv since we don't use it alot. Appreciate all info!

35-40 isn't really all that bad. If it's in good running order and condition otherwise, consider the devil I know. You're going to spend more time stopped than underway anyhow.

agree, I have a class A diesel pusher and many times on I-80 in Wy and I-90 in Mt, 45 is my foot on the pedal, so you are not out of line

I am considering it. I have a 2004 31 ft class C with the same engine. People that have done it swear by it. Actually this one is recommended. https://5startuning.com/product/7015fs/
It is on the back burner for me while I get new coils, fuel pump and plugs.
I feel the jump from second to 3rd is to long and it needs another gear.

Compare the new Ford 7.3 to the 10 cylinder 6.8 ( I’m assuming you have ) some differences. We have the 7.3 and it does well for us.
Yes we have slow downs on grades. I the words of RVF member Glampdaddy, you don’t have to be first up the grade.
We have 7500# tow capacity. We tow a 2019 Range.

In my searching around for tow capacity limitations, I discovered the new C's have a higher capacity not because of the engine or any other modification to the structure. But a piece of insulation put over a transmission plug near the exhaust. I am having mine examined and possibly beefed up to pull just over the 5000 lb limit on mine. I have the insulation from RV work to fix that part.

What? Meantime, you can pull just over your 5k limit by having a properly rated hitch and reducing the tow vehicle gvw by the amount the towed vehicle gvw is increased. You just can’t exceed the gcvwr, it’s zero sum.
