Well this is pretty cool! Last year in October, Trish bought a bunch of pumpkins and put them just below Site #7 (The Holly Tree). She called it the Pumpkin Patch.

Fast forward to the end of the season and I was to dispose of the pumpkins before the rotted. But I didn't. And as the winter progressed, the pumpkins melted away into a gooey mess and eventually they were either eaten by bugs or they soaked into the ground.

So about a month ago, I noticed some huge leafed plants growing below Site #7 and it turns out, they are pumpkin plants! Apparently from the seeds of last years pumpkins!

And then today, I noticed there was actually some small pumpkins growing on the vines. This is really cool, especially if the cycle continues each year.

It's the little things, right? :)

Picture 1 is last years pumpkins (from Walmart) in the "Pumpkin Patch". The next 2 pictures are the pumpkin plants growing today, direct decedent's of last years pumpkins!

View attachment 13907Will you be bringing a pumpkin to the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival this year? I believe the record weight stands at just under 2200lbs. Looks like you have a good chance at a winner.

Cross your fingers that it doesn't rain Barry!

Rain is ok when you're in a nice location. Ive enjoyed many afternoons watching it rain from the comfort of the coach, whether at the beach or in the woods. Thats when you play cards and cook crock pot meals. And maybe enjoy a cocktail or two….

And where we live it seems as though it never rains….

In june and July I encountered rain almost daily everywhere north and east Texas. Things didnt dry out again until mid Wyoming headed back west. I enjoyed it most of the time, often occurring in the middle of the night, with the exception of a few hail storms that were somewhat concerning. But fortunately no damage. Also very little of it occurred while driving which was nice. Only had a couple drops since we’ve been home.

Well we arrived at Deer Springs for a week of R&R. Even with a little rain, it feels great to get out of town. It was nice to finally meet you Jim and Trish, and if Mother nature cooperates tomorrow, I get to check out your campground.
