We’re getting ready to head to Dauphin Island next week so I started my usual walk around the RV checking things here and there. I decided to check the rear axle fluid as I had not done that in a while. Pulled the plug, checked the level with my finger and it was fine. As I always do I just glanced around and noticed my right rear brake rotor was messed up. So looking further the brake pads were gone, down to the metal! Checked the other side and they were fairly new looking. So I knew I had a brake caliper issue. I called a nearby mechanic the works on big trucks if he could work on it right away and he said no problem. While he was disassembling I was out getting brakes, caliper, and rotor. BTW; parts stores inherently have wrong parts listed for your vehicle. Literally 5 trips back and forth. While disassembling the mechanic found issues with the axle bearings. Apparently a bad previous install caused damage to the race. Got the new bearings, seal, rotor, caliper, and brake pads in on one side and went ahead and replaced pads on the other.
It took a day and a half, but that was he had to work between thunderstorms we were having.

Sure glad I found it.
Labor; $650. rotor, caliper, pads; $450. Bearings, seals, gaskets; $250.

Is that all ford products for the brake?

It’s a F53 Ford Chassis. I needed the parts quick because we’re leaving in a few days so I had to buy at local parts stores (local meaning 35 miles away). I could have saved a bit by ordering online. The rotor and pads were from Autozone and the caliper was from Advance Auto. Ford dealer didn’t have any parts for it.

That’s good to know. My parents Canyon Star is due for maintenance soon, and I hadn’t thought about parts being so easy to locate.

I just ran into problems with showing they have them and when pulled off the shelf they were the wrong part.

All that money!!! But how expensive would it have been if you had not found it before heading out?!?!
True! It would have been cheaper if the person working on it before didn’t mess things up. The inner and outer bearings were damaged during install and beginning to fail. The hub nut was on way too tight. Before I bought the RV about 4 yrs ago it had a complete brake job $3500 worth supposedly with new rotors, calipers, pads. I think he got ripped off. Some of those parts look original.
