Try Overland Insurance

I'm a 40+ yr USAA customer. I have three automobiles, my home, and my MH thru them (Progressive). One thing I discovered this year is between the annual SSA disbursement and "senior bonus" which I get for customer longevity, the premiums on my autos are basically free. Now, my autos are not late model Lambos, but I still think that's a decent deal.

I haven’t heard back from Geico yet so that gives me time. I’ll have to see how those savings factor in. May call USAA and tell them I’m considering moving and see what they say. My experience with USAA has been great but who’s to say I can’t find that with other providers. It’s a lot of money when factored in over those years.

You strike me as a corvette man.

No one. I will say that I have heard horror stories of filing claims with GEICO, either being underpaid or the claim taking too long to be adjudicated and paid out. I’ve never used anyone except USAA because they’ve always been cheap enough for me that I felt the level of service I would get was worth the relatively minor extra cost. That was until I got an RV and Progressive via USAA quoted me $10k/year. So the rig is with Foremost and everything else with USAA.

One thing I would say about Progressive via USAA is that its still Progressive setting the rate. USAA is just directing you to them because USAA doesn’t underwrite RVs. I would presume there is a business relationship between the two companies and perhaps Progressive is giving USAA members a premium discount or something like that but I don’t know this to be the case. All this to say, I don’t think its fair to be upset with USAA when Progressive via USAA gives you a bad quote. USAA didn’t have much to do with that. They’re basically just saying, “we don’t insure RVs, here’s a company that does which we’d recommend you consider”.

I had progressive with my boat while I never had anything but a flat tire on the trailer they were good to work with, but that's moot. Probably not going to use them here.

Overland is the winner as they get quotes from the various provider and Safeco/Liberty Mutual lands at $1570/yr with the windshield coverage.

Safeco 1600 + USAA 1800 comes in at 3400 with simple math vs. Geico's 2600. I have to adjust for the refunds we get as USAA members (subscriber savings) which I have to find yet this evening. As Geico is an unknown and USAA is a known and has paid me greatly and easily in the past it is going to be hard for me to part ways.

Digging up subscriber savings data now.

PSA ==> DO YOU HAVE WINDSHIELD COVERAGE? YOU BETTER ASK!

When I signed up for NatGen it was not included, I had to add it. That seems to be the theme. I needed it and used it, a windshield replacement is over $4k and far too common in these large RV windshields so you better ask and make sure you're covered.

I found my info on the USAA site in the My Documents area under My Tools as it's published in February. My distribution last year was $680. My balance is $8100. So if I switched to Geico I would get that $8K too! Do they hope you croak instead of ever paying that out? Seems the only way to get the full amount is to cancel them.

So this puts me at:

Geico 2600/year
Safeco (1600) + USAA (1800) - USAA SSA (-700): 2700!!

Other than the wanting my $8K meulah it seems I'm ready to pull the trigger on Safeco and get the insurance ASAP as I canceled Good Sam / National General today - happily!

Thank you @MapNerd, I owe you an iced latte!

And just like that Monday was a complete loss. Gotta love coming into the day with a grand productive plan and then checking online banking which I do every morning finding that love note from National General. Well, I'm glad it's over and I'm glad to shed one more Good Sam thing out of my life.

I think it’s just amazon how I know right where that $8k is going.
